The leader of the Liberal Movement, together with the members of the faction, registered the pertinent amendments to the Labor Code, the Framework of Benefits for Minors and the Framework Law for the Protection of Children’s Rights.
The amendments to the Labor Code propose to establish a four-day work week for parents who raise their children under three years of age, applying this procedure in companies and state and municipal institutions.
Parents of young children are expected to work 32 hours a week, work four days a week, or reduce their working hours accordingly. A reduced work rate would be applied to a parent or guardian.
V. Čmilytė-Nielsen says that it provides such amendments so that women, who often take parental leave, can return to work faster and apply the provision in the public sector, thus increasing their attractiveness.
Another proposal would legitimize “kindergartens”, in which a maximum of five preschool-age children could be cared for at home, and parents who allow a child to attend such a kindergarten would receive a partial reimbursement of the cost. .
The provision of children’s rooms for short-term care (generally less than 3 hours) in establishments or institutions with 100 or more employees is also proposed. They could be supervised by a member of the staff of the institution or body. In the private sector, these rooms would be recommended.
According to the initiators, the children’s rooms are especially useful when the children’s lessons end before the parents’ work, so there is no need to worry about how to get the child home during working hours or with whom to leave it.
