According to K. Baziulienė, she likes more to renovate old apartments, where she has to swim when she needs to, where she can unleash her imagination.

“Furniture design is inseparable from interior design, because furniture must be integrated into the whole and become part of the interior. So, in part, I’m also an interior designer.
When creating an interior, I first consider its purpose and needs: for a family with children, without children, for permanent residence, short-term rental, etc., and then a vision arises of what such an apartment or house should look like.
This is not my first short term rental home that I am renovating, so I was able to take advantage of not only the designer’s expertise, but also look at it from the owner’s perspective.
I think this apartment has everything that guests need to be comfortable, cozy and welcoming. I did everything as myself, imagining myself in a place for guests ”, says Karina.

Two bedroom apartment – more space
The designer says that after redistributing the spaces, the apartment created space not only for a more spacious kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, but also for a “walk-in” closet, the advantages of which do not even need to be named. .
“After seeing the plan of the apartment, I create an image in my mind, then I go to make visualizations to make sure that the image that is born in my mind is correct and fits the dimensions. I can see the apartment itself later. The essential things that I choose apartments for short-term rental are the location of the house, the floor of the apartment and the price. The interior is secondary, you can always change it ”, says Karina.
In the social space, the focus was on the renovated bathroom of this apartment, which was moved to the bedroom.
“Yes, that decision of mine was unusual for many – how I was able to donate the entire room to the bathroom in such a small apartment, even though in reality the room was only a few square feet of the bathroom and it didn’t even have a bed.
Also, having a short-term rental experience, I knew that in addition to the shower, some guests needed a bath, and a bathtub with a shower in one did not satisfy me. So I quickly decided that there would be a bathroom in the room, ”says Karina.

By the way, although the bathroom seems very spacious, it has not increased much since the initial version, since previously the area of the bathroom was 4.5 m2. m, ”says Karina.
In the place of the old bathroom there was a closet in the hall, a washing machine with a dryer, as well as an expanded kitchen (it is connected to the living room), behind the wall – a bedroom.

In the heart – modern style
The designer adds that when renovating a home, not only beauty, but also comfort, functionality and practicality are the most important, so that you do not have to constantly attend to the home.
“I always keep that in mind when creating. I would say that what I like the most is the modern interior style, which is characterized by simplicity, free space and functionality ”, emphasizes Karina.

Speaking of how much an interior renovation of this type would cost, the furniture designer says that it is very individual and pointless to talk about it because the prices of craftsmen, decorators and interior details vary not only in different cities but also in stores.
“Some do everything with their own hands, others hire teachers. My own work in this apartment: room planning, interior design, online material search, ordering.
By the way, as the pandemic has shown, many things can be done remotely today: you don’t have to be physically on site to create an interior that is pleasing to the heart and eyes, ”says K. Baziulienė, who has curated many works of Ireland.

She jokes that she is more inspired and motivated by failure if something fails in creation: “So I persevere, take a break, go back and do it until I succeed. And as I always create with love and heart as if it were my home, the result is also pleasing to the eye ”, says K.Baziulienė.
