“I congratulated the esteemed S. Skvernelis on the formation of a new faction. What has happened in recent months has largely demonstrated that the LVŽS faction has essentially two components. This is demonstrated by the results of the vote. The vote of S Skvernel and his colleagues deviated from the decisions and votes of other MPs belonging to this group.
What happened yesterday is just a formalization of this, ”said G. Nausėda.
The president also conveyed his advice to the prime minister: “On this occasion, I would like to hope that S. Skvernelis and his comrades find their political identity and work for Lithuania.”
We recall that ten MPs, including former Prime Minister S. Skvernel, announced on Tuesday that they were leaving the opposition peasant faction. Together with various politicians from the Mixed Group, they are forming a new Democratic faction on behalf of Lithuania.
“We have decided that we do not want to participate in such a policy of division and promotion of conflict, nothing more than the Lithuanian state and its people suffer from it,” said S. Skvernelis.
The peasant leader R. Karbauskis said that he did not feel any regrets, but regretted that voters have been misled.
After this step, the Seimas will once again be without an opposition leader from the fall session.
