The protest in the Rūdninkai camp, which is already becoming a tradition, is that after the posters were made, the illegal immigrants started shouting and chanting to demand their release.
“It is not really a riot, we are aware of this situation and the director of the camp reported that the situation is under control,” says Deputy Interior Minister Arnoldas Abramavičius.
There are about 4 thousand illegal people in Lithuania, now they are all in accommodation centers, they cannot leave them. However, one will have to do it, like it or not, because our intelligence, by discovering what kind of people came to Lithuania, identified an Iraqi who could pose a threat to our state.
“It was simply a negative conclusion for him that he is not a trustworthy person, and on that basis a negative decision was made,” says the Head of the Migration Department, Evelina Gudzinskaitė.

It is true that the deputy minister points out that, although Iraq does not want to recover its own economic migrants trapped there, they do have people with blemishes in their biographies: “For this person, I think it is a matter of time.”
However, Iraq will not accept other economic migrants so easily, so Lithuania is already considering what to do with them when we do not grant them refugee status, but also deport us. Negotiating deportation with Iraq remains difficult.
“Convincing Iraq to accept deportees remains a challenge, even though the EU has an agreement with Iraq on deportation, Iraq just views that agreement differently.” That is why the support of our European partners is very important here ”, assures the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Our country’s diplomat should start working in Iraq these days. Even if you cannot reach an agreement with the Iraqis on the return of your compatriots from Lithuania, our politicians are already preparing various options to say goodbye to the Iraqis. One option is to create the conditions so that they can be transported voluntarily to their homeland.
“If we extend that restriction on freedom of stay, we will extend the restrictions on free movement from 6 months to a year, or maybe indefinitely, or all options, for 2-3 years, then that voluntary return can also increase,” He says. the Seimas National Security and the Chairman of the Defense Committee, Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
And the Interior Ministry is considering legalizing a new status for an illegal migrant. With him, the stranger would remain illegal, but he would gain more freedoms.
“Perhaps then they could apply to the labor market for a certain period of time, stay, but on the other hand, this status would not give them the opportunity to move to a secondary country,” says A. Abramavičius.
Until now, the idea is still under discussion, the ministry does not reveal whether in such a case the state would pay money to illegal residents, provide housing. The Minister of Social Security and Labor says that Lithuania still does not intend to integrate thousands of illegal people.
“And people can integrate when they have that status and if they have that status. So far, I don’t see any circumstances to have the status of illegal immigrants,” says Monika Navickienė.
And the Interior Ministry admits that, if released, it could be illegal to flee Lithuania. But if you get involved with officials from another country, you won’t be there for long.
“The opportunity for them to leave will exist, but as they will be identified, those other EU countries will return them without major obstacles,” says A. Abramavičius.
The Migration Department is currently processing around one hundred and a half asylum applications, but so far no newcomers have been granted refugee status. More than 50 illegal people were seduced by the allocation of 300 euros and free tickets home.
