Two customs agents were brought to Russia by train against their will, but have already been returned: an ongoing investigation

“Anyway, they were doing their duty, checking the wagon, and the train was moving, we still don’t know why,” said Vitas Volungevičius, head of the Communications Department of the Customs Department.

“It is normal that the customs verify the risk information and went to inspect the mail wagon,” added the head of the communications department.

Transit trains are typically inspected by officials from both the State Border Guard Service and the Customs Department. In this particular case, border guards leave the train after completing the check and customs officials unexpectedly departed for the Kaliningrad region.

“When the border guards have completed the inspection procedures, more precisely the shift manager, will notify the train station guard about the end of the inspection. The same notice must be given to customs officials. If it was or no, we cannot say. The attendant then allows the train to leave and the conductor leaves. The border guards completed the inspection, informed them according to the established procedure, and then discovered that the two colleagues had inadvertently left for Russia “, said Giedrius Mišutis, public relations adviser for the State Border Guard Service.

On Friday, a meeting of Lithuanian-Russian state border representatives was held immediately. Border incidents between Lithuania and Russia are generally handled in this format.

“Identity documents were handed over and yesterday they were handed over to the Lithuanian side,” said G. Mišutis.

As the Russian and Belarusian military exercises near Zapad approach, experts are warning of various incidents and provocations that could be selectively organized.

Lithuania is currently struggling with the migration crisis associated with the official Minsk regime. Migrants arriving in Belarus from various Asian or African countries go to Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. Since the beginning of August, Lithuania has given border officials authority to return migrants to Belarus.
