In Iceland, as Loreta herself tells the news portal tv3.lt, she found herself accidentally: five years ago, a former collaborator offered to travel to Iceland without a plan during a vacation. All he knew was that he had a place to stay. At first, without even thinking about settling there, the woman has been counting abroad for six years.
“I will not forget the impact that was on the body when we went from a hot summer to five degrees Celsius. Nightmare. The wind is icy. The feeling that the wind is blowing in neither direction. Wherever you look, blow everywhere! Although he takes and returns to the plane! I remember that I thought I would not be here long, ”recalls the interlocutor with a smile.

The biggest inspiration is nature.
Knowing Iceland and its nature, Loreta still cannot be surprised by its majesty and beauty; Most likely, this is why the idea of restoring the wonderful sights of nature in an edible form was born. Waterfalls, rivers, rocks, volcanoes and other spectacular views adorn the woman’s cakes:
“Ideas are born here by nature itself. It is so impressive that it can be found in an existing place more than once, and it will shine in completely different colors. You looked from another angle, from another angle, and as if for the first time you could. see again. The grandeur of the mountains, the waterfalls, the glaciers, the lightning change of the natural elements, all this cannot fail to impress. Then, probably, due to the uninterrupted abundance of impressions, I had a natural spill in the cakes “.
L. Čiunkaitė-Liutkuvienė self-taught, says that he did not study in any pastry or culinary course. She considers that this is probably because she is a jeweler and a ceramist, and at every stage of her life she creates, draws, writes lines, threads, weaves and engages in other creative pursuits.
They asked him if he still remembered the first cake he baked, this time it didn’t look perfect enough for its taste and it had nothing to do with cakes decorated with natural motifs.
“It was Napoleon who I baked for my daughter’s birthday with great enthusiasm, but I remember not being very impressed by the end result. Later, I ‘trained’ him to my liking,” said the woman.
And the first cake is still stuck in memory. Loreta then built the Samaná cake, and the resemblance of the biscuit to real moss pushed the cakes to recreate natural landscapes:
“I remember very well the first cake, which pushed me to create elements of nature in cakes with a completely unsustainable material: food. It was a moss cake that exceeded any expectation. I carried green cookie chunks into my hands and couldn’t help but be amazed at their resemblance to the moss that covered large areas of Iceland. Then the thought factory crowded in ”, he laughs.
The woman is inspired by the nature of the country: she is constantly photographed, filmed and seen with the material brought. She does not hide the fact that nature here is extremely impressive and she has not been as focused on it anywhere else as when she arrived in Iceland.
See admired
The last cake Loreta made before the holidays was decorated on the rock of Hvíterkur in northwest Iceland. He says it is memorable that the construction was complicated, but the result was gratifying:
“The vertical part is a multi-layered shaped cake built on the edge with two holes. And all this without additional bras. I was also satisfied with the work because the cake, which is dangerously unstable from the point of view and adheres to only three supports, passed the transport test and remained unchanged ”.
The cakes, decorated with stunning views of nature, do not leave anyone indifferent: the woman says that some even cry. It is true that Icelanders themselves react more vehemently to such beauty than Lithuanians.
“I admit, I did not expect such big reactions, but actually they are very emotional. People are very surprised, look closely, look further, turn, take pictures, do not believe. They say they can not cut it. And I saw him scream from amazement and excitement.
Over the course of five years, while living here in Iceland, I made many friends and acquaintances. Both Lithuanian and Icelandic. Therefore, both Lithuanians and Icelanders have tasted and seen these cakes. Just maybe because Icelanders’ own relationship with the nature of their country is more natural, their reaction is even more emotional, even hotter, ”said the woman about the reactions.
It is true that baking cakes is just a hobby, as she herself puts it, it is her own self-expression that is currently being poured into cake decorating. Most likely, if it weren’t baked goods, it would be something else, but keeping in mind that maybe the hobby will one day get a more stable base, but now enjoy the reactions of people and the production process itself.
When asked how long it takes to build such a cake from start to finish, the woman has no exact answer; He never counted how long everything takes.
“I never counted in minutes how long it takes. Because you won’t do it all at once. Bake the cookies first, the basics. They need at least a few hours to stabilize. At the same time capes, spots, muses, Kurds, etc. are produced. Then they are formed. Ripening again. Then there is the decoration. This stage is the most enjoyable part and lasts in several ways: three to six or eight hours. So you can say that everything takes two days with breaks, ”L. Čiunkaitė-Liutkuvienė told the process.
You have to experiment
Loreta doesn’t hide the fact that everything happens – it takes a lot of experimentation to be successful the way you want it to, and you can’t watch videos on how to do it, because that’s her unique and original idea.
“It is not written anywhere about it, no YouTube channel has information on how to do what I have created myself. Then experiments are carried out with small amounts, with small elements. And whenever you get it.
I am currently intensively testing an untested element of nature. It is a “tough nut to crack” that has already demanded many doubles, but the excitement is even greater. I will still “peel” it, smiles the interlocutor.
Of course, not only the appearance of the cake is important, but also its taste. After all, a person has to enjoy not only watching, but also tasting. And here Loreta experiments until the desired result is achieved, and is re-evaluated by the “tasting team”. It is true that he does not invent new recipes, he adapts to his taste to those who like:
“I am not an inventor of confectionery. So, of course, I am not even trying to invent a bicycle. Basic recipes have already been written without me. But I need to “tame” myself, because there is probably not a single recipe that satisfies me 100%. Therefore, various proportions change, certain products are being replaced by other healthier ones ”.
The best discovery for Loreta herself are freeze-dried berries and fruits. Not only are they good for the body, natural and aromatic, but they are perfect for extracting colors: a woman’s pastels do not contain unnatural products. She smiles seeing that freeze-dried products are transported from Lithuania, because Lithuanian scientists were one of the first to start processing fruits, vegetables and berries in this way.
And what is the secret of a good cake? Loreta does not give it away; after all, cakes and other desserts must have a secret. Here he remembers his relative who did not tell anyone what is the secret ingredient that is so charming to taste.
“Briefly about my relative Genė, who has been famous for her unreal taste in Samogitia since time immemorial. In the farthest corners, everyone knew his delicious baked goods and his ingenuity. When she asked him what he had put in those branches that were so rich, he replied that there was nothing special. I turn around, I say, I bake, from time to time I press and keep turning, I bake … At such an answer, everyone laughed deliciously, but no one ever knew what pinch of happiness I would put there, Loreta said with a smile.
