Angela’s life is like an endless drama. The war, the early marriage, the successive deaths of loved ones and, finally, he sold the only home he had. He gave the money to his son because he needed to build a house. “I lived with them, we agreed, but my son and Martí threw me out,” he says.
Angela’s name has been changed. The woman does not want to be recognized and tells her son that she has forgiven: “May only God forgive her.” It is like opening a blank sheet of paper.
“Dad used to walk through the door”
Anelė grew up in Samogitia, her parents also lived here. “I remember the German times very well. I was 10-11 years old. Dad says: honey, let’s go to the apple orchard. We’re back already, picking the apples, spinning along the power plant, and it turns out the Germans dropped it and pulled it out.
Suddenly an explosion was heard. Dad collapsed, his body pressed against me, with a whole bag of apples. And when we got home, we saw the broken windows. The war began. We left the city through the town, to some acquaintances. We spent the war there, ”said the woman.
Anele says that later, during the years of occupation, the Russians immediately sought nothing bad: “Until the first trip to Siberia.”
When Angela’s brother got married, remember, life’s turmoil began. Because his brother’s two brothers went out into the forest. Yes, says the woman, we became a family of bandits.
“My older brother was transported to the NKVD every other day and came back broken. Once, I remember, I brought it in and lost it at the door. He tells the parents to take it, we will take it to the forest and bury it. Mom took me to the hay, lay down. All broken. And the forest was about 10 miles away. The partisans lived in that forest. They kept sending us letters, but after this day I don’t know who brought them. Mom found them tucked into the windowsill. He says you need socks, gloves, scarves, ”said the woman.
Anele remembers that her mother had learned to knit it, so they both went to work at night. Later, the tissues had to be taken to the partisans. And who will do it? Once, Anne’s brother went to the forest, but it was not by chance that the stingrays caught him.
“NKVD came home and asked. Then he took his brother to the same forest. He says: dig a hole for you. Demonstrated tell where the bunker bunker is. Brother: I don’t know. And they: we will shoot. He hit the butt in the head, his brother fell into that well ”, said Anelė.
So then he rode his bike into the forest: “Dad, standing at the door, kisses and rides. Says if stingrays get caught, don’t say real last name, pretend to be silly. Dad leaned against the door and waited for me to come back. “
It is better to be transported to Siberia than to sit on the gooseberries.
Anele says it would take her days, not hours, to count her entire life. The woman says that the family managed to escape the fate of the deportees, but one of the brothers was convicted and became a political prisoner: “For nothing. He turned 25 and was taken to Karaganda. He remained there for seven years, and already after Stalin’s death, his parents wrote a request for forgiveness for his case to be reconsidered. The greatest happiness was when the brother arrived. “
And once it became known that people could be picked up at night and transported to Siberia, Anele and her parents told her brother to hide in the neighbors’ neighbors. That if the sturgeons come at night, at least they won’t take the children.
“And we are sitting with my brother on the gooseberries. My brother is putting me more and more in those bushes. We scratched our entire body and returned home from the wound that night. The brother says: it is better to let it carry than to sit on the currants ”, laughed Anelė.
Married at 16
When Anele was 16 years old, she got married. It happened that her future husband, twelve years old, left the army.
“It just came to my knowledge then. He says: I will marry her. My mother did not agree immediately, because I was very young. But my parents agreed that I needed to be released. Because if you take me to Siberia, where else will the stripes rape me, and if I marry, I will be safe, because I am no longer a relative of bandits. That is how I got married, “said the woman.
Her parents told her: don’t ask her for anything, she’s a girl.
The wedding was fun, the relatives got together. However, when it was time to sleep, Anel hid behind her father.
“Her parents told her, don’t ask her for anything, she’s a girl. And he promised to raise me. That was the case. One corner has his bed, the other my bed. We lived with my parents. I gave birth to my first child at 19 years old, ”said Anelė.
The marriage gave birth to two children, both boys. But here there was no happiness. As the children grew significantly older, the family divorced.
The woman’s second marriage, in which another child was born, was full of love and joy. True, not for long. The woman lived with her second husband for eight years; died in a car explosion.
“I’m waiting for you to come home. He doesn’t come back on time and I soon found out that he will never come back,” Anelė said.
The woman says the rest had a lot of work to do, one was raising children. In addition, the woman raised the children of her youngest son. “These were children from his first marriage. There was nowhere to put them, no one wanted to babysit after divorce. I grew up for five years without receiving any custody, only then did the court grant me custody. I remember the children crying in court, holding me up because they wanted to live with me. Is this how I leave them?
He sold the apartment and gave the money to his son.
But how did it happen that Anelė, who has three children at the age of 86, no longer has her own house and lives here, in the “Oriai house”? This is probably the most painful part of your life story.
Anele buried not only the man. At 55, one of her sons died, who was very good to her, she was worried. “Died in a week, cancer. That he was sick, he hid from me. That summer still came to me, we woke up. And he needed surgery at the hospital next week. Then I found out that my son was sick. I ran out of the hospital to see him. It was Thursday and he died on Saturday. So I thought I was going crazy. I buried everyone: my parents, three brothers, three sororities. I was left alone, “said Anelė.
The son of another woman from his first marriage lives in Lithuania, but does not maintain contact with his mother, and the third, the youngest, whose children were raised, returned to Lithuania a few years ago after trying to find happiness while living and working. abroad. It was for him that Anel sold his house and gave the money to build his son’s family home.
So he sold his apartment and the money, around 18 thousand. euros – gave his son for the construction of a house.
“He had a good apartment, on the ground floor. The son told me: Mom, we want to live in the village, to cultivate. Be good, we come to us, we will take care of you. I tried to tell them that I was going to get bored. But they said no, they promised me honey, but it was just words, they didn’t need me, they needed money to tidy up the house ”, the woman sighed.
So he sold his apartment and the money, around 18 thousand. euros – gave his son for the construction of a house. Although she was promised a room with a separate entrance, the reality turned out to be different.
“He gave me one of those rooms. While the toilet was closing. I had to go outside through their rooms, through the kitchen, but in two months I got used to it.
So the son decided to go abroad to earn more money and we were left with a march. In addition to giving me the money I received for the apartment, they also took out my bank card and took the € 400 that was there. It wasn’t my money, it was a bank loan, ”said the woman.
Life in the son’s house turned into suffering, disagreements with the march, which the son also supported, and finally the woman was openly told that there was no place for her here.
“I remember that when my son was still working abroad, Martí called an ambulance to take me to the door. The doctor comes and asks what happened. And I say, we both get along, then we’ll find out which one is steeper. Martí started screaming, I started crying. The doctor offered to call the police and left, “Anelė said.
“And the son? I forgave him. “
“Martí told me that, get out of here. The son agreed with her. We signed a document that will return 8 thousand euros – I will pay 200 per month. More than a year has passed, but I have not received anything. home, without money and with a debt with the bank ”, said Anelė.
The woman called her acquaintance, who found a rental house. Anele moved out of her son’s house overnight. However, the rented house was not comfortable for an older person to live in. Her grandson took over the woman’s residence at Casa Oriai.
Due to the constant trips abroad where he studied, it was not like taking care of his grandmother himself. Now, after finishing her studies, she has returned to Vilnius, and they are both happy that after much trouble, her grandmother lives safely, quietly and comfortably today. Across the street is a store, a polyclinic, convenient transportation if you need to go.
“My grandson now makes me happy and he is by my side, I am happy. We meet, we communicate, he comes to me, I come to him.
I communicate by phone with my friends and former neighbors, telling them that I live like in paradise. I am very grateful to the founder of this house, Maria Bunkaitė.
And the son? I forgave him because I am a believing Catholic. May only God forgive him. I ask the Virgin Mary to enlighten her mind on what she has done, to feel sorry for her. But he doesn’t even try to call me and I don’t want to go with his family, “Anelė said.
