In the same corridors of the Seimas, it is said that there may be as many as ten MPs in the peasant faction in the autumn than in the spring session, which has already ended. Consequently, there would be some threat of having an opposition leader in the fall session.
On the other hand, such a large number of MPs who intend to leave the group also shows that thoughts of resignation are not only circulating in the minds of non-partisan members of the LVŽS faction. Rima Baškienė, a longtime LVŽS member, is no longer sure of her distant fate in the match. Although the politician assures that he is still hopeful that things will turn out well, when asked about the prospects of his destiny in the party, he no longer hides, the resignation is more likely.
“I wait and look for roads until the last minute and I think that not all the bridges are burned. I know that divorce only happens when a marriage is dissolved by court order, ”he told Eltai.
However, when speaking of the situation of the peasant faction, the politician did not hide his doubts about whether the party leadership has an interest in stopping the processes of collapse. The old-fashioned Peasant Party wonders why, as the situation in the faction escalates, no one is holding joint meetings, which could ease tensions.
“If I were the eldest in the group or the person who formed the group’s position, and I felt that there is something undulating, I would really start a meeting and want peace, peace and cooperation. Maybe colleagues don’t want that peace and quiet? Maybe they just want something to come out, as they once said, to clean up. Maybe there are such goals, “said R. Baškienė.
Politics did not hide that she was not fascinated by the party’s leadership, which, according to her, would be after 2020. The Seimas elections have the support of the Union of Peasants and Greens.
“I have questions. It is natural. I see the radicalization of the party and the faction, I see the search for enemies, which has been the case since the beginning of Seimas last year. And it does not fascinate me,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
However, the peasant woman assured, the decision, which is being considered not only by her but also by some members of the LVŽS, is not easy.
“I have been associated with the Peasant Party for 25 years. And if divorces did happen, they wouldn’t be really easy. I had some really long thoughts. We still have a weekend to reflect on, but divorces, if they happen, aren’t easy considering I’ve worked here for many years, ”said R. Baškienė.
The politician acknowledged that a similar number of parliamentarians are considering withdrawing from the peasant group. For the latter, R. Baškienė assured, the decision to split the faction is not easy either.
“They are also having a hard time surviving that period, if they had to get divorced. We are really discussing what happened, why we should take that step or why we still have to wait. Probably, there is a greater chance that action will need to be taken.” said R. Baškienė, who still belongs to the peasants.
Retiring MPs should be enough for the new faction
The Seimas member stated that if he decided to withdraw from the Peasant Party, he would hardly join any new political organization.
“For 25 years, I grew up with a farm team. Therefore, it would be very difficult for me to immediately imagine myself at another party. I will probably remain non-partisan if I resign, and I will have to resign if I switch to another faction. I imagine myself if that step was as a non-partisan person, ”said R. Baškienė.
Although the politician did not want to reveal how many MPs he intends to leave the faction, R. Baškienė did not reject the fact that MPs operating in the ranks of the LVŽS must have enough to form a new faction.
“I think it will be the formation of a new group, it is probably not so small,” he said.
Expect LVŽS management to assess labor gaps
Finally, R. Baškienė hoped that if the peasant faction split in the near future, the LVŽS leadership would make the appropriate decisions.
“If that happens, I hope that the peasant team of the peasant faction really thinks. What job gaps the group’s leadership could see. Because if the comrades leave, they don’t leave because it is very good for them, they leave because they haven’t. spoken somewhere, ”said R. Baškienė.
“The most important thing is to find compromises and not resist,” added the politician.
