More than 30 different ideas were proposed to improve, beautify the living environment, make it more attractive, create spaces for various activities. Of these, 17 were selected and put to a public vote.

The voting ended last week and the results were counted. The idea of a playground near the hill of I. Simonaitytės street received the most support, the project for the mythological recreation and game space “Baltų saulės parkas” came in second place, and the proposal for a new playground in Tauralaukis was in third place.

Deividas Petrolevičius, senior advisor to the Klaipėda city municipal administration, told Western Express that preliminary estimates for the three projects are about 50,000 euros. However, it is expected that the revision of the estimates and the procurement will generate savings and that instead of two projects with a budget of € 100 000, all three will be successful.

“We may not fit in a hundred thousand, but we can see that the activity of the people was considerable, there is a need for playgrounds.

If necessary, we can allocate more money and implement not two but three ideas.

We will try to find extra money, “Petrolevičius said.

The ideas proposed by the neighbors are expected to be implemented next year. However, the Baltic Sun Park project may take some time as the need to adjust the detailed plans has become apparent.

Although fewer than 700 Klaipeda residents expressed their opinion during the vote, D. Petrolevičius stated that he positively assessed the division of said organized budget for the first time.

“There were more than 30 initial proposals, 17 ideas were selected for the vote. I think it’s a good number. Voting activity may have been affected by the fact that we had planned to vote live. Those few hundred votes may not sound like much, but on the other hand, the townspeople have shown interest.

I welcome it, because it will be a starting point and we will be able to assess whether we can achieve better results next year. We see things that need to be improved and I hope we will see different numbers next year, ”says D. Petrolevičius optimistically.
