“It just came to our notice then. Our opinion is as follows, your request is different. If the court decides to allow it, let it walk,” the mayor of Kaunas told reporters on Thursday.

“As a normal, healthy man who lives and loves a woman, you obviously understand what an opinion is. And here, as you want, you also live, ”said V. Matijošaitis when asked how he evaluates the requirements of the LGBTQ + community and the march itself.

It takes the position that the municipality has also presented to the court: Laisvės Alėja is still a construction site, so such an event should not take place here.

Also, he said, the city’s central pedestrian street is not dedicated to such events at all.

“In my personal opinion, it is not necessary to visit everywhere. If all nationalities or someone starts parading in Laisvės Alley, there will be no place for ordinary citizens to go out. Laisvės Alley is for residents and leisure, that’s my opinion, ”said the mayor.

In June, the Kaunas municipality failed to coordinate the route for LGBTQ + marches in the city center, prompting ongoing infrastructure renovation works and disproportionately large inconveniences for citizens.

The organizers of the march appealed this decision to the Regional Regional Administrative Court and at the beginning of August forced the municipal administration of the city of Kaunas to coordinate the route of the march.

On August 26, the Kaunas municipality appealed this decision to a higher court, requesting that the decision be annulled and that the plaintiff’s May 1 union complaint be rejected in its entirety.

This complaint must be addressed on Friday, the eve of the march.
