Called the godfather of the Constitution, K. Motieka actively participated in politics and was highly valued by his comrades.
“Kazimieras Motieka was a dedicated lawyer, an active figure in Atgimimo and Sąjūdis. The history of our country is memorable in 1989. At the congress of deputies of the Soviet Union, he delivered a speech in which, for the first time during the 50 years of Soviet occupation, he officially demanded the return of the independence of the Lithuanian state. Due to the death of the signatory, I sincerely sympathize with the family, colleagues and comrades, ”said Seimas spokeswoman Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen in her condolences.
Lawyer, criminal lawyer, political figure, signatory of the Law of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania on the Restoration of the Independent State of Lithuania K. Motieka was born in 1929. November 12 in Kaunas.
After graduating from law, K. Motieka worked for some time as an interrogator in the Vilnius city and district prosecutor’s offices. Later, he was a prosecutor in the Militia Investigation and Supervision Divisions of the Prosecutor’s Office and investigator of cases of special importance until he became head of the Investigations Division.
1990 On March 11, K. Motieka together with other deputies of the Supreme Court signed the Law on Restoration of the Independent State of Lithuania. That day, even two colleagues nominated him for the presidency, presenting him as a great scholar, a man of high culture and extremely tolerant. However, K. Motieka refused to participate in the elections and asked that all the votes that would be assigned to him be assigned to V. Landsbergis.
K. Motieka participated in the preparation of the TA in 1992. The draft Constitution and on it in order to achieve a consensus among the representatives of the nation. When an agreement was reached and the nation adopted the Constitution in a referendum, the Supreme Council, the Restorative Seimas, completed the work of restoring and consolidating the independent state of Lithuania. 1993 K. Motieka returned to work as a lawyer. Three years later, he founded a law firm in his own name, later becoming its senior partner. K. Motieka has been the Chairman of the Council of Vilnius University for a decade and was also a member of the State Awards Council. Together with his wife, they raised two children.
