An unexpected twist in the history of the ship that sank three times in Denmark

The Norwegian-owned Ole Willasen, built in 1948 as a whaling ship, caused a lot of headaches last fall.

He then managed to drown himself twice. After the second incident, he was docked for repairs.

After repairs, the ship was returned to the same location and moored on the embankment of the River Dane.

On Thursday, passersby again saw the ship sink and turn dangerously sideways.

Firefighters and environmentalists came to the place.

The ship was surrounded by a hood barrier to prevent the spread of pollutants flowing from it.

On Friday morning a meeting was held in the municipality, which was attended by the mayor, representatives of the port, the shipowner and divers.

It turns out that the strong winds and rains that have hit Klaipėda recently, strong waves may have broken the wooden plug, which temporarily blocked the pipes of the cooling system.

“We all agreed with almost one voice that there is no place for such a floating object, which has already sunk three times. Ways will be found to escort it to the pier as soon as possible,” said the Mayor of Klaipėda City, V Grubliauskas.

The shipowner’s representatives said they would like to return the ship to Norway.

“It just came to our attention then. However, in any case, the ship must comply with the safety requirements so as not to drown already in the lagoon or more in the sea,” explained the mayor.

At the same time, he joked sadly: a ship that had sunk three times in less than a year could claim a record.
