On Wednesday, the president discussed the challenges in education with the Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Jurgita Šiugždinienė.
Calls to learn lessons from the pandemic
“Today, we discussed a number of issues with the president – preparations for the new school year as September 1 approaches – we are all very excited and getting ready. Final preparations are still underway and we look forward to a successful return to school. .
We also discuss the issue of the social dimension and access to higher education. We strongly support the president’s concern about the accessibility of higher education, we have prepared our proposals, which are the same and go in the same direction as the president’s teams, ”said J. Šiugždinienė.
Jolanta Karpavičienė, senior adviser to the president and head of the education, science and culture group, said the president’s view on the upcoming school year is very clear: all children should stay in schools this year.
The President emphasizes that the lessons of COVID-19 must be learned and that there should be no obstacles in the next school year so that our children have the right to education in contact in schools without social exclusion, emotional and psychological barriers.
The President emphasizes that a continuous, high-quality educational process must be our priority, ”said a representative from G. Nausėda.
He added that voluntary testing should become a kind of culture.
“The main idea that voluntary testing could become a culture of trust and detection is probably emphasized, and we must all realize that vaccination and testing are a prerequisite for ensuring public immunity and having safe opportunities to work in contact, “said the adviser to the president. .
J.Šiugždinienė, in turn, said that he hopes that parents will become aware in the new school year.
“It is very important to us that all children are in school. The test is one of the tools that is very important, but there are others: all the safety requirements that we present. <...> Children are children, parental permission and consent is required to take the test, it would be very unfortunate if some parents did not give that consent, but the child and their educational process should not be harmed as a result.
Seeing how simple the test is, I think the number of testers will increase, “said J. Šiugždinienė.

J. Karpavičienė commented that the President also appreciates the work of the political parties and the desire to reach a National Agreement on Education.
“It is very relevant and it should be emphasized that the agreement on education reflects the principles of the welfare state: inclusive education, development of preschool education, social dimension in higher education.
The president hopes that a compromise will be reached to ensure qualitative advancement in education, ”said J. Karpavičienė.
He added that this was an agreement between the political parties, but that the views of the social partners would also be taken into account in reaching compromises.
J.Šiugždinienė stated that some of the proposals of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party were taken into account in the final version of the agreement.
“We really discussed the additional proposals of the Social Democratic Party, we took into account some of the proposals. I really believe that the option that currently exists is coordinated and acceptable to all the political parties that participated in the drafting of the agreement, ”said the Minister.
According to her, the National Board of Education, representing various educational organizations, as well as the Association of Municipalities of Lithuania and the Presidency also participated in the preparation of the agreement.
“So, the draft of the proposal is ready, we are waiting for the last approvals. And I am confident that we will be able to sign the agreement on September 1, ”he said.
