“Three courts were released last Friday, one today,” prosecutor Romuald Beting, who is overseeing the case, told BNS.

The court ruled that the arrest was too harsh pre-trial detention for these suspects and the sentences of the Vilnius City District Court were overturned.

On August 12, the Vilnius City District Court heard requests from prosecutors to arrest 26 suspects for inciting riots near the Seimas in Vilnius, and allowed nine of them to be arrested.

Five suspects were arrested for a month, two for 14 days, and two for 10 days.

Later, another person was arrested following the arrest of three more suspects.

There are currently 29 suspects in the riot case.

The number of victims in the case is also increasing; to date, there are 21 of them.

About 5,000. On August 10, people gathered before the Seimas in Vilnius to express their opposition to the government’s planned restrictions on people who do not have immunity to the coronavirus and who do not undergo tests.

After the Seimas session, some of the protesters blocked the exits of the parliamentary building and the exit of the inner courtyard of the Seimas. When the officers took them from the building, riots broke out: bottles were thrown at officers, flares were fired and tear gas was used at the protesters.

Police and prosecutors are conducting a large-scale investigation into the riots and the video sent to them by the public.
