When he became ill with COVID-19, he also suddenly became aware of another rare autoimmune disease that was completely diagnosed by accident. This disease, hemophagocytic lymphohistocytosis, kills quickly if it is not diagnosed in time. Edita found out about her when she was 28 years old.

Even the doctors do not know why Edita suffered from this disease. One possible theory is that it may have been caused by a COVID-19 infection.

“I never thought that I would ever have someone I would be grateful for for my life. But I have. Both I and my entire family are incredibly grateful to the director of the Santara Clinics Hematology, Oncology and Transfusionology Center (HOTC), Professor Laimonas Griškevičius ”. Delfi Readers.

It all started in mid-October last year, when he fell ill and tested positive for COVID-19.

“After two weeks of solid bone fractures, muscle aches and a daily temperature of 39.7ºC, I began to sleep with night light. When the thermometer read 40 on All Hallows Eve, one thing became clear: the time had come.

Despite the fun trip to the hospital accompanied by the blue headlights, it turned out that I did not pack a toothbrush in vain, ”Edita wrote visually.

She warned others: if the high temperature does not drop for two weeks and, as in your case, 39.7 degrees remains for two weeks, it is not very normal.

“Seek a second opinion, and if necessary a third opinion,” the woman advised.

Speaking about the later course of the disease, Edita wrote: “In the first weeks, everything seemed very simple. He seemed to be coming home very soon. Doctors, of course, were not so optimistic: repeated tests for the virus were negative, no one knew why the drugs were not working and the tests were getting worse, ”Vilnius said.

Finally, the doctors found the cause of the suffering: Edita identified a rare autoimmune disease that, according to the woman, kills undiagnosed in a month and is really rare: such cases occur only 1-2 times a year.

The editors had to spend another month in a hospital where he received chemotherapy, dripping donor blood. During that time, the young woman underwent resuscitation three times, went into a medical coma, developed organ failure, two sepsis, had to use artificial lung ventilation, and then learned to walk again.

The woman who experienced all this urged everyone not to hesitate and to sacrifice blood because it saves lives.

“I already spent Christmas at home. I went to the hospital three times a week to check on the condition. She was not looking well. The doctors recognized that the only way was to start preparing for the stem cell transplants. Or there will be a RIP ( rest in peace – aut. last.) ”, Edita explained.

He received a bone marrow transplant in February. The procedure lasted approximately half an hour by instillation through a catheter.

Due to the transplant, it was necessary to repeat the chemotherapy, to apply the biological therapy that caused very unpleasant sensations.

“Everything to eliminate my stem cells,” Edita explained. “After the procedure, the whole room smelled of tomatoes for a while (because of the frozen cells shed), I received the food directly into a vein for a week and the morphine dripped throughout the day to prevent pain.”

After the transplant, Edita’s immunity, either acquired naturally or by vaccination, completely disappeared. Unfortunately, he still can’t get new vaccinations and at the moment he has to work alone from home, not going anywhere for fun, avoiding all the street kids who don’t wear masks and oppressive kids.

After sharing her story, Edita urged everyone, “Get vaccinated. Not just for you. And for the others “.

It has been 6 months since the bone marrow transplant. Now a long period of rehabilitation, but according to Vilnius, everything is going well.

“Clearly, the wonderful care and professionalism of the doctors at the Santara clinics is not enough here,” said the young woman, who thanks the doctors for the illness and life saved in time.
