“It just came to our attention then. This is due to the fact that certain actions are being carried out by Belarus. We see active acts of disinformation and propaganda. I would like to thank our media for their great work in exposing and disseminate disinformation organized by Belarus, “said A. Bilotaitė.
According to the minister, the situation with the illegal immigration figures seems to stabilize.
“Nine people were admitted to Lithuania this week for humanitarian reasons. Today, four people are leaving Lithuania voluntarily,” said A. Bilotaitė.
Individuals were invested 1,500 times. Some of them can be reversed more than once.
“Analyzing the social networks of certain countries from which illegal migration occurs, we see a new trend that is sending a clear message that it is proposed not to take this path because it is complex, that there are difficult conditions. It is suggested to choose other directions, “said A. Bilotaitė.
Lithuania increases its vigilance
According to the Minister, in response to the provocations by Belarus, Lithuania is strengthening its forces and increasing vigilance.
“We are prepared for any provocation. A Joint Situation Center has been created, made up of all the forces of order and other institutions necessary in this process to manage this migratory crisis. Information is available, this center is open 24 hours a day 24 hours a day, consequently, it provides the necessary information and offers possible solutions ”, said A. Bilotaitė.
The minister reported that the capacity of mobile equipment is doubling.
“Now our capacity is such that it will be possible to interview about three hundred people a day. This means that we must interview, speak and provide all the information to all illegal migrants before September ”, said A. Bilotaitė.
The European Union Council of Interior Ministers met on Wednesday. According to the Minister, everyone in him expressed a clear position that what is being done by Belarus is intolerable.
“Lithuania raised three fundamental questions: one is the financing of the physical barrier. Although Lithuania has already decided to build a physical barrier, and to do so at its own expense, this issue is raised at the European level, as this border is the external border of the EU To ensure the protection of this border, we need financial assistance to finance the construction of a physical barrier ”, said A. Bilotaitė.
According to the minister, it is realistic for Lithuania to reach a decision at the European level and the country can expect funding for the construction of a physical barrier.
“Another important point that has been raised is that our EU legal framework, which regulates migration processes, is not in line with current problems. When a hybrid attack occurs, Member States find themselves in such a difficult situation that they fear making decisions that protect the security of countries and the EU as a whole, as they may face sanctions or consequences. All countries understand that change is necessary, that member states and the EU must have the opportunity to defend themselves, to make decisions. It cannot be that the illegal migration processes are used for the interests of certain countries or as a tool of a hybrid attack ”, said A. Bilotaitė.
He criticized the previous government
The minister acknowledged that the migration crisis was not unexpected.
“We should go back to the years 2016-2017, 40 thousand were being prepared for the exercises and training that were organized at that time. influx of migrants. Unfortunately, after that no action was taken, no preliminary agreements were prepared or places or infrastructure were not provided where these people should be accommodated, ”A. Bilotaitė criticized the previous government.
The Minister agreed that now it can be questioned that the processes are not going fast enough.
“But we are doing it in a very short time. We do things in a month that have not been done in four or five years, ”said A. Bilotaitė.
There was more than one incident
Antanas Montvydas, deputy director of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), also stated that the situation regarding the number of migrants is stabilizing.
“If we have had more than four thousand illegal immigrants detained since the beginning of the year, we had a peak in June of this year – close to 500, in July it is almost 3,000, and in August – we still have not reached 270,” said A. Montvydas .
According to the Subcommander of the SBGS, the decision of the Chief of Operations not to admit people when they do not want to cross the border checkpoints and want to cross the state border illegally has paid off.
“Since August 2, when the decision was made, almost 1,500. these people are not admitted. The last day, 17 of this week, almost 150.
The figures show a partial stabilization. Unfortunately, we also had unpleasant events, such as the incident at the border, when a group of 35 people, officials from the Republic of Belarus, were pushed into Lithuania. (…)
A pre-trial investigation was launched. In accordance with the agreement between Belarus and Lithuania on the legal border regime, a border representative was contacted, but we have not yet received a response. We can point out that a similar incident, when an official entered Lithuania, was on the 12th. Information was also provided (…), we did not receive a response either, ”said A. Montvydas.
