The mayor of the Kretinga district, Antanas Kalnius, recently announced this on his social media on his account today. It is true that it should be understood that the mayor is shocked by such a decision of the Commission.
“When you think that it is impossible to fall below the bottom, but errors appear. During today’s meeting of the Municipal Commission for Emergency Situations, Konstantinas Skierus proposed a rescue solution, I quote: in the territory, that they work remotely, that they do not transport that infection here, and that we are not in the black zone, as the city of Klaipeda.
In my opinion, this was a proposal to the commission that Klaipėda residents working on the territory of the Kretinga district municipality would work remotely. They would not come into contact with our residents here, ”A. Kalnius informed the Commission about such a proposal from K. Skierus, the former director of the Palanga Communal Farm, a member of the Kretinga District Municipal Council.
However, according to the mayor, a little later K. Skierus softened his proposal and offered to limit himself only to employees of the Municipal Administration.
The mitigated proposal was approved by the Municipal Emergency Commission.
“It was only from the end of the meeting that I didn’t understand if it would be ‘mandatory’ or just ‘recommended’. But administration director Egidijus Viskontas added after the decision was made: “Now let’s give an example of how the administration, if we look at this, will accept it at the next meeting of the wider circle,” the mayor writes.
A. Kalnius says that sometimes he no longer understands what is going on in the minds of his colleagues.
“Now imagine what would happen if, for example, the Klaipeda municipality made the decision not to allow the people of Kretinga to work in the city, prohibited us from attending events, did not allow us to provide services, provide cargo, not enter the Acropolis, etc. We had not gone to such an absurdity even last winter, when the morbidity surpassed all records. And the representatives of the ruling majority of our district, instead of thinking about how to unite a divided society, decide to go still further and “cross the shoulder”, – fears the head of the Kretinga district.
