According to Giedrė Aleksienė, head of NVSC’s Communicable Disease Management Division, who is acting temporarily as director, the increase in the number of active outbreaks was recorded for the fourth week in a row.
“We consider that the epidemiological situation is complicated. We are registering the growth of active outbreaks for the fourth consecutive week, which does not allow us to expect optimistic scenarios in the near future. Especially considering that soon people will spend much more time indoors” says G. Aleksienė.
Therefore, according to Dr. epidemiologists, it is now particularly important to continue increasing the vaccination rate. The example of social services shows that vaccines offer greater opportunities in the fight against the virus.
“Last fall, winter and spring, the largest hot spots of coronavirus infection, which also recorded several dozen or more than a hundred cases of COVID-19, have recently registered unique outbreaks in welfare homes. This shows that extremely good results can be achieved with the vaccine. We epidemiologists urge you not to delay, get vaccinated, if for some reason you have not done so yet ”, recalls G. Aleksienė about the importance of vaccines for the epidemiological situation.
The highest growth was recorded in the commerce and manufacturing sectors
Last week, more than 60 percent. Growth compared to the previous period was recorded in the manufacturing sector. There were 23 active outbreaks, compared to 14 in the 31st week of the year.
Epidemiologists also observed twice as many outbreaks in week 32 of the year in commercial companies. Last week there were 12 active outbreaks in companies in this sector, compared to five a week ago.
The growth of active COVID-19 outbreaks has been observed in the service sector, with six active outbreaks recorded, compared to four by epidemiologists last week.
The growth of active outbreaks was also observed in educational institutions last week: seven active outbreaks were registered, while in week 31 of the year there were three.
In two sectors, construction and logistics and transportation, the trend of active outbreaks decreased last week. Two and one active outbreaks were registered, respectively.
In total, 82 active COVID-19 outbreaks were recorded in Lithuania at the end of last week. At that time, in the 31st week of the year – 73 shoots.
The NVSC recalls that an outbreak is a sudden spread of a communicable disease that affects a limited number of people and / or a limited area, that is, two or more interrelated cases of the disease in time and space.
