Temperatures reached that limit around 5 p.m. in the southern city of Córdoba, the agency said, a tenth of a degree above the previous record set at the same weather station in July 2017.
“If the data is confirmed, it will be the highest temperature reliably measured in Spain,” said Rubenas del Campo, a spokesperson for the agency.
The heat wave in Spain continued on Sunday and an extreme temperature warning remains in five regions.
According to the daily Del Campo, the heat wave “is probably one of the biggest that people can remember.”
Heat and increased dust particles have also increased the risk of fires.
On Sunday twelve planes were deployed to fight a fire in the municipality of Asebuar in Valencia.
The fire threatens part of the Sierra de Espadano Natural Park.
The fires in the central province of Ávila, where residents of several localities have been evacuated, are also worrisome.
According to the agency, Spain experienced twice as many heat waves in 2011-2020 than in the last three decades.
Scientists believe this heat wave pattern is a definite sign of climate change, and the situation will only get worse.
