Bilotaitė: individuals must take responsibility
Interior Minister A. Bilotaitė believes that the people who caused the riots on Tuesday may have been misled. They came to express a position on the government’s decisions, but yesterday’s events before Seimas, the violent actions show that the objectives of the event were different.
“The organizers of the riots are responsible for what happened and they will have to assume that responsibility. As you know, the administrative responsibility for organizing the riots is granted for up to 6 years,” says A. Bilotaitė.
The Minister believes that yesterday’s events in Rūdninkai are also organized.
“The situation is tense, all the officials of the Ministry of the Interior participate to the maximum in the crisis meeting. The police officers not only work in their direct functions, but also guarantee the protection of other objects located on the border. VST no it only performs its functions, but also protects objects and reacts if necessary ”, says A. Bilotaitė.
These arrangements, according to the Minister, are an attempt to unbalance the situation and achieve certain objectives. A. Bilotaitė says that a hybrid attack is currently being experienced against Lithuania. The migrants and the Monday riots are currently in use.
“It just came to our attention then. It is scandalous that some members of the Seimas, whose faces were clearly visible yesterday, are involved in anti-state activities. It is obvious that these individuals will have to take responsibility, because they are acting against the interests of the state. , the nation that elected them ”, comments A. Bilotaitė.
The minister also thanked the officials at the press conference.
“In the performance of their duties, they were injured and found themselves in medical institutions and operating rooms. This is intolerable, it is regrettable that such measures must be taken and the State defended. I promise that we will do everything possible to prevent this from happening again. We are in a state of hybrid warfare, riots are part of the war, ”says A. Bilotaitė.
The minister believes that the members of the Seimas must take personal responsibility. The minister also awaits a legal and political assessment.
“It is obvious that such actions, incitement during an emergency, is a serious act, but I want to emphasize that it must be evaluated by the forces of order and the entire parliament”, comments A. Bilotaitė.
However, according to A. Bilotaitė, this situation was a good lesson, every effort will be made to avoid a repeat of this situation. It is therefore important that accountability is applied and that it sends a clear signal for the future.
The minister recalls not forgetting that the Zapad exercises are currently being carried out on the border, so it is important to guarantee the security of the state.
After the riots, the police kept watch over the Seimas, the government fenced
After the riots that broke out on Tuesday night, Seimas police officers continued to monitor the parliamentary entrance on Wednesday morning.
The building is fenced with a stop strip of approximately 75 meters. Cars turning onto A. Tumėno Street, which was blocked Tuesday night, are stopped by officials and asked for what purpose.
Access to the Government House in Vilnius was also blocked on Wednesday morning. It is fenced with a metal fence and a stop strip. Police teams are also on duty here.
On Wednesday, the government intends to decide on new restrictions for people without immunity against COVID-19.
On Tuesday, a massive protest took place in Vilnius near the Seimas, which later escalated into riots.
At the end of the working day and after the extraordinary session of the parliamentarians, the protesters had blocked all the exits of the parliament building and blocked the doors of the inner courtyard of the Seimas. The members of the Seimas were able to leave the palace, but were immediately surrounded by protesters and began to express their indignation, insults and some received threats.
Initially it was impossible to get out of the Seimas by car.
At night, riot police pushed the protesters away from the patio door and made an exit hall. Officials used tear gas. The participants of the campaign threw bottles, stones, flares, fired firecrackers and so on at the officers.
26 people were arrested and about 10 officers were injured in the riots near the Seimas on Tuesday night, police said.
A pre-trial investigation was launched into the organization of the riots.

Some 20 migrants had fled the Rūdninkai landfill.
About 20 illegal immigrants had fled the Rūdninkai landfill Tuesday night, the police department said.
“11 were detained by the police, the rest by other services,” Revita Janavičiūtė, a representative of the Police Department, told BNS.
At approximately 10 pm A report was received from the Public Security Guard that riots broke out at the Rūdninkai landfill in Šalčininkai district: migrants were breaking through the fence.
That same night, around 11:45 p.m. the situation has stabilized.
According to the Minister of the Interior, Agnė Bilotaitė, the unrest in the camp continues.
“They are not happy with their conditions.” … They are not five stars, they are basic, and the dissatisfaction comes from that, “he said.
Riots broke out at the Rūdninkai landfill, where the illegal immigrants were housed, on Tuesday night, with the help of police and Public Security Service officials and a border helicopter, BNS told the Interior Ministry.
“According to preliminary data, there was disturbance in the Rūdninkai camp and police forces were used, although they are constantly on duty there anyway. Currently, the situation is stabilizing. The police requested that the situation be monitored from the air and a helicopter border took off, ”said Mindaugas Bajarūnas, Head of the Ministry’s Strategic Communication Division.
The Rūdininkai landfill in the Šalčininkai district is home to several hundred illegal immigrants who entered Lithuania through Belarus.
Riots here also broke out in early August. The migrants were then unhappy with the living conditions in the countryside.
Lithuania has declared an emergency situation due to the increase in illegal immigration. The country’s officials take the position that the increase in migratory flows is an organized action of the Minsk regime against Lithuania.
