39 offenders were detained on the border with Belarus on Saturday, 35 on Sunday and 86 on Monday, the Interior Ministry said.
At that time, the Lithuanian border guards returned 150 people to Belarus from Sunday at midnight until Monday, who tried to cross the state border in illegal places. Illegal immigrants were not allowed into Lithuania for the third day in a row.
This year, 4,112 migrants illegally crossed the border between Lithuania and Belarus, several dozen times more than last year. As a result, a state of emergency has been declared in the country.
Taking into account the situation in Lithuania and the growing threat on the border between Latvia and Belarus, the Latvian border guards stepped up patrols. They have also been assisted by soldiers and four Frontex officials from the European Union border guard agency.
Last Wednesday, Latvian Prime Minister Krišjanis, Interior and Military Minister Marija Golubeva announced that the country plans to accelerate plans to modernize border infrastructure and involve the armed forces in border protection.
Defense Minister Artis Pabriks last week ordered the National Armed Forces to extend assistance to the State Border Guard Service.
