Lithuanian customs officials again stopped a large shipment of cigarettes for smuggling on rail transport: 60 boxes of cigarettes were found on a train arriving from Belarus today (August 7), in a cargo of debris.
Around 8 pm In the morning, a train with various cargoes arrived from Belarus at the Stasylai railway post of the Vilnius territorial customs. During a detailed customs inspection, officers found 60 boxes (30,000 packs) of Fest cigarettes with Belarusian stamps in one of the wagons carrying the debris.
The total value of the illegal cigarettes seized, including taxes, is 112,800 euros.
A pre-trial investigation into smuggling will be launched in the Vilnius section of the Criminal Customs Service (CCS) in the near future.
This is the second cargo of contraband seized at the Stasylai railway post this week: On Tuesday (August 3), customs officials detected 159 cases of contraband cargo in the fertilizer cargo.
Last week (July 29), 40 boxes (20,000 packs) of Fest cigarettes were also hidden in a load of debris stopped at the Kena railway post.
This year, Lithuanian customs officials have already detected 5 smuggling shipments hidden in fertilizer shipments, 4 loads of gravel and also 4 wood (boards, sawdust pellets, etc.) on Belarusian trains.
For the transport of illicit smokers, smugglers also try to take advantage of the design features of the wagons, for example by installing double-walled hiding places at the rear of the wagons.
