“Taking into account the situation in which the Lithuanian side is organizing the transport of foreigners to our border in the European Union in an organized manner, as well as to avoid provocations by Lithuania, the border guards have used all necessary forces and measures to prevent the illegal crossing of the Republic of Belarus, Antonas Byčkouskis, a representative of the State Committee of the Border Guard, told the Interfax news agency.

He stressed that “mobile tactical reserves of border guard groups and units are used along the entire border with Lithuania, as well as additional equipment for the performance of established tasks.”

During the last day, Lithuanian officials detained two illegal immigrants and handed over more than 100 people, according to data released by Statistics Lithuania and border guards on Friday.

The number of detained migrants has dropped dramatically in recent days, allowing border guards to return them to Belarus and direct them to official border checkpoints.

This year, 4,112 migrants, mostly Iraqi citizens, entered Lithuania through the border with Belarus, Statistics Lithuania reported.

Lithuania accuses the Belarusian regime of organizing migration flows and calls it hybrid aggression. Because of this, a state of emergency has been declared in the country.
