“There are very few squirrels in our markets. For a week they were absent at all. There are still no mushrooms, the forests have not yet spread. Last year, it seems to me, there were already boletus in June. And not yet this year. This year year and the mushrooms are late. And what to wish for, it was so dry. After all, they need heat and humidity. We had a lot of heat, humidity – unfortunately … “- said V. Mickus.
When asked when mushrooms should appear in markets, he replied that it would all depend on what the natural conditions were.
Councilor Elida Mantulova is known as a passionate mushroom picker, but she has yet to survey the forests this year. Next week he plans to have a week of vacation this year, he hopes to check it out.
“During squirrel season, which begins, I think, in the second half of June, we don’t usually go to the woods. If you really want them, we buy them from the market. We ride when the boletus, oregano and then mushrooms start with great enthusiasm. The prized mushroom season should start soon. We bought a new fridge, I loaded everything from the old box. I see that I still have a lot of jars with beautiful mushrooms from last year, ”said Ms. Elida.
Lithuanian forest products buyers and processors also note that there are far fewer mushrooms this year. But they say that Lithuanian squirrels will soon be available in Maxima stores. This year, the Tandemus mushroom processing company operating in Varėna plans to deliver at least 0.5 tonnes of squirrels to this Lithuanian retail chain.
“This year we noticed that the forests are stingy with these goods. Although the spring was rainy and raised expectations, but during the heat of July the mycelium dried up, there is a great lack of humidity. As a result, squirrels germinate slowly. Even seasoned mushrooms take longer to collect the baskets. But they can still collect 5 kilograms of squirrels a day this year. However, it can be said that squirrel meals become a luxury ”, says Vincas Martusevičius, director of the Tandemus division.
