The Vilnius bridge, which has received a lot of attention, is unrepaired: its legs are already glued between the boards.

The bridge has been preserved and is not being repaired.

In March 2018, the locals mobilized and, in the true sense of the word, expelled the workers who came to dismantle the Kazbe Bridge. The Vilnius Municipality later announced that the bridge would be demolished because it was in an emergency condition. And it will build a new one in its place.

However, the workers did not start the dismantling work, which was opposed by residents determined to save the bridge. The noise caused by them also reached the municipality, even the mayor Remigijus Šimašius himself visited, inspected and declared the bridge safe.

A little later, the Kazbey Bridge was added to the Register of Cultural Heritage. Prohibits car traffic.

It goes alone the repairs of this bridge are not yet beginning. Already in December 2019, the municipality assured that the ice cream had moved, announcing the purchase of design services for three years. Next year, it is planned to commission a project for the management of the Kazbei bridge, after which a tender will be announced.

The summer of 2021 also became the second half.

However, as Agnė, who lives nearby, said, nothing on this bridge changes: “Our bridge is emergency, but many cars pass through it, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. It is scary to go with children because drivers are running at abnormal speeds, we fear for safety.

When we cross the bridge with children, we are afraid of something else: holes everywhere, a big child’s foot will definitely fit, and while the cars are still driving, they demand to leave, although there is a sign prohibiting their transit. “

According to the woman, if there is no money for repairs, and such an impression is formed on the residents, because they say that they only hear promises and there are no works, then at least they would close the bridge, so that it does not. Be possible to drive cars.

Maybe in 2022-2023

According to Arūnas Visockas, Senior Advisor to the Vilnius Municipality Infrastructure Department, the bridge will be repaired. Not yet this year.

“After the inspections, it was determined that the bridge could have signs of an emergency threat, so it restricted car traffic and left the passage of bicycles and pedestrians.

2020 At the end of the year, the conclusions of the expert examination and suggestions on how to manage the object included in the list of cultural heritage were received. Earlier this year, the Lithuanian Highway Administration was requested to allocate funds for the repair of emergency communications.

Funds were not allocated due to the need for a prepared technical project. Currently, the preparation of documents for the purchase of a technical project is beginning ”, said A. Visockas.

If this purchase is scheduled to be announced in September, maybe even next year or 2023, repair work will begin. Of course, it also depends on whether financing is provided for it.

Unique wood floor

This bridge was built in the 20th century. In the 1930s (presumably around 1935), it was manufactured by a Polish company.

Among the valuable protected properties are the spatial structure of the bridge – a one-span truss bridge, and the structural elements – foundation foundations, concrete pier supports, riveted steel floor, etc.

By collecting the material, heritage conservationists managed to discover that the exact same trusses are used for the bridge in Naujoji Vilnia through Vilnius (Šiaurės st.). Another similar bridge (only four spans) is the old Nemenčinė bridge included in the Register of Cultural Heritage, which has already been rebuilt, the trusses have been considerably strengthened and some of the rivets have been replaced by bolts.

Both bridges have an asphalt concrete pavement, and the Kazbe Bridge is unique in that it has preserved a wooden floor to date, which is also included in the list of valuable properties to protect.
