The accident in the Panevėžys district on the Via Baltica highway, near the Pasvalys district border, was caused by a driver who suddenly ran into the opposite lane of traffic. According to witnesses to the incident, the 70-year-old man, who was sitting behind the wheel of a Nissan, acted recklessly when he was on the sidewalk and was afraid of flying into the ditch.
“The witnesses, as I mentioned, said that when he obstructed the curb, he apparently turned the wheel too sharply, did not control and drove into the opposite lane,” says Jonas Pipiras, the road’s technical representative.
After being shot in the forehead at Opel, he turned off the road and turned. All special services went to the scene of the accident. A 54-year-old Opel passenger and the driver of the Nissan who caused the accident needed medical help. Unfortunately, the old man later died in hospital.
“It just came to our attention then. The wheels were cracked and broken, the fluids from the cars leaked, spilled, the firefighters evacuated, cleaned and collected fuel, ”he continues.
Both drivers from the tragic accident are sober. While the accident was being repaired, there was a traffic jam on the road.
