The Speaker of Parliament, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, briefed journalists on this after the Seimas Board session on Wednesday.
“Now we will collect information on how many members of the Seimas have immunity: they have been vaccinated, they have gotten sick, they are ready for contact work in the fall session,” he said.
It will also be necessary to consider not only encouraging members of the Seimas who do not vaccinate for one reason or another to do so, but we will also consider whether there will be restrictions on entering the Seimas building for those without a passport and similar facilities, “manager.
According to her, the Seimas will apply its measures taking into account the decisions taken by the Government.
“In my opinion, the Seimas should not follow in this case either, but simply give an example of how institutions should function where contacts are inevitable,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
He stressed that without being vaccinated against COVID-19, the members of the Seimas should not be guided by will or whims, but should also think about the safety of their colleagues.
“Here, I would say, desire-reluctance or some whims should be secondary. It is very important that the members of the Seimas have a responsibility towards their colleagues, including people of respectable age, people with various comorbidities and, finally, visiting relatives of respectable age, ”said the Speaker of Parliament.
“We must understand that the moment the Seimas works in contact form, we must guarantee safe working conditions. We will consider how to ensure that,” he said.
“Of course, it would be easier if all Seimas members were vaccinated and we could safely choose in the Seimas room,” he added.
