Iraqi Authorities Deny Baghdad Airport Contributes to Illegal Migration of Lithuanian Citizens to Lithuania

As reported by the Iraqi news agency INA on Friday, this is stated in a statement from the Iraqi National Security Advisory Council.

The Council responded to the European Commission’s request for clarification on the penetration of illegal immigrants into Lithuania through the Belarusian border: “Baghdad International Airport is only for legal travel, as Belarus legally and legally allows the entry of tourists Iraqis on its territory, so the Iraqi state cannot prevent its nationals from entering this country legally. “

At the same time, the Council acknowledges that some Iraqis have been “fraudulently implicated in illegal migration.”

Since the beginning of the year, 3,145 illegal immigrants have tried to enter Lithuania from Belarus. That’s almost 40 times more than in all of 2020.

In late May, the authoritarian Belarusian leader Aliaksandr Lukashenko said that his country had been a barrier for illegal immigrants on their way to Lithuania and that due to Western political pressure, Minsk could stop them.
