Residents clash with the housing manager: After costly repairs, stairs look like after the war, but no one handles the danger

Residents who wrote a letter to Delfi asked for help: “We, one of the Vilnius apartment buildings, Kavoliuko str. 17, which is managed by My Housing, we want to share with you how My Housing works for the “good of the people”.

They say they waited a long time for the entrance stairs to the house to be repaired because the structures were old, unstable and unsafe for the elderly, wheelchair users and families with young children, most of whom are in the stairwell.

My Housing has found a contractor to renovate the entrance stairs for almost € 5,000 in a month. The list of jobs to be done looked beautiful and people were eager
I was waiting for the works to begin ”, say the neighbors.

But when it came time to get the job done, I was deeply disappointed.

“The contractor arrived unprepared and began work late at night, when most of the workers or families with children were preparing for the night’s rest. What’s more, people were asked to give them water and to plug their instruments into electrical outlets. The work lasted two days. After that, people were left to their own devices with a mountain of garbage under their windows, which has been standing for three months, “the letter reads.

When a photographer from Delfi visited the staircase, residents said they had picked up trash after that work.

“To our even greater disappointment, no one came to continue the work. Within two weeks, the stairs started to crumble, the condition worsened and it became more unsafe than it was before the renovation of the stairs, because not only the grandparents or the children, but also other neighbors could hold onto the protruding boards, ”explains the resident of the house in the Karoliniškės district.

However, the contractor disappeared and no longer responded to phone calls or letters.

“Then My Housing contacted me and told me that all the work was done. We were shocked. We had to go through a lot of trouble to invite the “Mi Vivienda” employees and they would come again and assess whether all the contractor work they commissioned, which will cost the residents almost € 5,000, has already been completed. “wrote the neighbors.

They claim that Mi Vivienda, after assessing the situation, acknowledged that the work had not been done and promised to solve the situation, but this had not happened in three months.

“The promises have remained only promises, everyone has begun to shake off the responsibility and nobody has anything specific for us
did not answer. When you call My Home, they tell you that they will call you back. We also did not receive any specific responses by mail regarding the subsequent completion of the work. We have been living like this for three months, with a tragic ladder and uncertainty about what will happen next, ”the residents asked for help.

Neighbors have already commented a smaller amount to Delfi’s photographer, that such work can cost about 1,000 euros.

“What will happen next and who will respond in the event of a disaster with such an unstable ladder? U.S,
Ordinary residents, we do not receive any response, our calls, letters, requests and complaints have not been answered for a long time. Perhaps you answer if these works and the state of the renovated stairs correspond to the list of works that the contractor provided us with the price list at the beginning of the works? ”Neighbors shared her despair.

Mano Būstas promises to make repairs: the work was done by the contractor who offered the lowest price

Paulius Ugianskis, representative of Mano Būsto, does not deny that the responsibility lies with the contractors.

“It is obvious that the repair work on the stairs was necessary because the edges of their building panels are physically worn, the stair steps are cracked, so it is really dangerous to walk up those stairs. This work was performed by the contractor that offered the lowest price after a tender. We, as our clients, know that the contractor performed the job poorly, so all defects will be corrected in the near future and residents will be able to use safe and orderly stairs, ”promises P. Ugianskis.

It ensures that the residents of the house will not have to pay more for it, the work carried out is covered by a guarantee and the contractors are subject to a “strict quality control”.

“I would also like to clarify that the amount of 5,000 euros mentioned by the reader is inaccurate, it is almost twice as small,” added P. Ugianskis.
