The mayor of Calvary also believes that mandatory vaccinations can be dispensed with if neighbors themselves consciously protect themselves from the disease.
He entered the red zone all of a sudden.
Kalvarija Mayor Vincas Plikaitis revealed that there are currently 5 people in the municipality. These cases of infection appeared unexpectedly, in just one day. The mayor said he was reviewing the statistics over the weekend and did not notice anything unusual: “We looked at Sunday, there were zeros everywhere.”
“We were in the green zone all the time, there was nothing, but now 5 people got sick and they immediately put us on the blacklist. No one can really predict here. Everything looks fine, fine, but you wake up one morning, 5 people are sick and you are already blacklisted, ”said the mayor.
He said he could not give more details about the sick people because he did not have detailed information yet. “I don’t think they are local. Maybe they work somewhere, maybe they brought it in from somewhere, they left, but today I can’t say anything,” said the mayor.
When asked if there are Covid-19 smokestacks in the municipality, V. Plikaitis answered with certainty: there are none.
“It just came to our knowledge then <...> If the disease continues to spread, we will do more. I don’t think there is any problem on the part of the municipality here, “said the mayor about the management of the Covid-19 situation in Kalvarija.
Calvary is currently vaccinated with 40.8 percent. population. According to the complete vaccination plan, 36.9% received the vaccine and 3.8% received a single dose.
The mayor does not support the idea of mandatory vaccination
When asked what he thinks about mandatory vaccination, V. Plikaitis replied: “In my personal opinion, it shouldn’t be this way. <...> And how it will be, we will see. <...> Power is power, whatever they say, that’s what we’ll do. “
According to the mayor, vaccination is not necessary for residents who are carefully protected against Covid-19. “Some people stay at home, they don’t go anywhere, I know those people. <...> A person is sent to the store to buy and home all the time. I mean, if people are so protected, I don’t think they should get vaccinated, “reasoned V. Plikaitis.
According to the mayor, a prolonged deterioration of the epidemiological situation would also set a foot in the cultural life of the city. According to him, if Calvary is in the red zone, it may be necessary to cancel events in the future.
“Once the pandemic passes, we organize events. <...> The days of Kalvarija will soon come. It is not clear whether it will be possible to organize these events. [ateityje – aut. past.]. If we are on the black list, I think it will not be possible ”, considered the interlocutor.
