Skvernel does not skimp on criticism of the authorities: they are capable of repeating the mistakes of 2009 and causing total chaos

“Summer is hot in every way,” Skvernelis began at his press conference.

According to him, the prevailing chaos is reminiscent of 2009 and the crisis that prevailed then.

“It seems to me that many of them can repeat the same mistakes they made in 2009, to cause total chaos. I do not know why they are not doing so well, but it seems that we are going in exactly the same direction,” said the opposition leader.

The politician pointed out that the government, according to him, is also not able to adequately manage the crisis of illegal immigration.

“This confusion of power, insecurity, lack of plan, sows insecurity in society,” said S. Skvernelis.

This situation, he said, was due to the actions of the rulers themselves.

“It just came to our knowledge then.” If measures are taken against the illegally elected leader and country of another country, all consequences, opportunities and a plan must be evaluated to face those consequences, “the politician emphasized.

Lithuania, continued S. Skvernelis, is the only one in Europe facing such a crisis, because such actions are not applied against other countries.

“For me, the situation is similar to the time when I had to be Minister of the Interior, when there was a migration crisis in the South, but it was a different crisis. (…) We have a different situation at the moment, but at that time Greece, Italy, other countries stayed to discuss – the EU was discussing what to do and the decisions were aimed at the delivery of humanitarian aid, ”he said.

In the situation, according to S. Skvernelis, there are roads, but one of them is unlikely.

“One way is diplomatic, but apparently difficult to understand, knowing the positions of our government, the government, the president. Direct contact with Minsk, but this is unlikely. The second way is to defend your border. If, as the rulers say, there is a hybrid war, let’s go to war, but the war needs a plan, ”said the opposition leader.

The Interior Ministry, in his opinion, is showing a lack of professionalism.

The voice of the president is missing: where is our head of state who promised to seek consensus?

S. Skvernelis did not hide the lost voice of President Gitan Nausėda in this crisis.

“Where is the head of our State, who promised to plant political parties at the round table, to seek political consensus in cases of crisis, to solve. Actually, we still don’t see these actions in public. Perhaps something is not happening in public, but if the state has decided not to be diplomatic, but to have a strong position in defense of its borders and interests, then that strong position requires a common political consensus ”, S. Skvernelis emphasized. .

He said that a state of emergency might be necessary in some parts of the country, but said it required a general political consensus and clear communication with the people.

“It should be a discussion with the political parties, with the leaders of the political groups, and if we decide that such a regime is inevitable, and I think we are moving towards making it inevitable, then we have to explain to the public what it means.” bring. That it would not be throughout the country, that decisions would not be made on the restriction of rights and political freedoms ”, explained the leader of the opposition of Seimas.

In that case, the politician pointed out, it would be possible to mobilize forces, but for that, S. Skvernel emphasized again, it is necessary to have a plan.

Skvernelis on the events in Rūdninkai: the police had to correct the mistakes of politicians

On Monday, after Interior Minister Agne Bilotaitė announced that the new settlement city for illegal immigrants would be established at the Rūdninkai landfill, people began to gather there, blocking entry to military territory by cars. The police had the force to evict the protesting population.

“The police had to correct mistakes or nonsense by politicians. If it weren’t for that, the police really wouldn’t have had to react at this point. However, when access to the MIA-specific object, polygon, is blocked, these are illegal actions. And you had to explain to people, “said S. Skvernelis.

The Rūdninkai landfill, according to him, is a suitable place to build a campus for the accommodation of illegal immigrants.

“The police had to react. From what I could see in the images, they reacted adequately enough, they certainly did not use excessive force, excessive violence and they had to. They did not do it without the instructions of the political leadership,” said the opposition leader. .
