How is your relationship with S. Skvernelis?
Behind the scenes of politics, there have been rumors recently that some members of the LVŽS faction are considering secession. They accelerated after R. Karbauskis declared a week ago in the LVŽS congress that for those who support the Law of Association, there is no place in the LVŽS faction in the Seimas. Among those people were not only Tomas Tomilinas, but also Lukas Savickas and Rūta Miliūtė.
After such a statement, there was talk again about the possible separation of S. Skvernel from the peasants. The former prime minister has repeatedly mentioned that it is necessary for the LVŽS to change its name and renew it, only then would it join the party. S. Skvernelis has repeatedly criticized the shadow government of the LVŽS. It is not the first time that rumors have spread about his disagreements with R. Karbauskis.
However, R. Karbauskis himself assures that he has not heard that someone from the LVŽS faction is going to leave it, but points out that if there are those who want, the door is always open.
“I have no information that anyone has moved anywhere. (…) We have told our colleagues that, in any case, it is a betrayal of the party’s voters and, it can be said, that part of society that would not want such solutions in Lithuania and is not prepared for it . . There are about 70% of those people, according to polls, and that percentage is even higher among our voters.
In this situation, we told our young colleagues: they think how they do it, how they can vote for what they did not defend in the elections, they said exactly the opposite there. This is a betrayal. I have named it directly and will continue to say it.
I am very happy that 28 members of our faction did not betray their voters, they did not betray the values with which we arrived at the Seimas ”, explained R. Karbauskis.
When asked how relations with S.Svvernelis are currently developing, the LVŽS president assured that he communicated with the former prime minister as much as possible, both by messages and calls.
“We communicate as much as possible, as much as necessary. We write messages, we call, we also talk about the immigration crisis. In this situation, when we talked about possible disintegration, factions, etc., we did not have such speeches.
Each member of the Seimas is free, he can choose where to go, no one can take away his mandate. We look at it clearly, pragmatically, we understand that if we had some kind of division, it would be first and foremost the principle of values ”, R. Karbauskis did not hide.
Support the president as a counterweight to the government
Commenting on the words expressed by I.Šimonytė that the president is not the head of the country, the president of the LVŽS explained that the current government wants to limit the powers of G. Nausėda, so the peasants support him as a counterweight to the current government .
“The president is not the boss. He is the head of state. We understand this as a person responsible for the country’s national defense, foreign policy. Consequently, we see the government’s efforts to limit those functions that are defined in the Constitution. to the president, in our understanding, this is wrong.
Now we support the President as a kind of counterweight to the Government, which, in our opinion, is really very fruitless, ”said R. Karbauskis.
