The first migrant riots in Ignalina: the girl who caused the conflict was taken away

According to J. Rasikas on the news portal tv3.lt, the migrants housed in the Ignalina district raised certain demands that led them to go on strike.

“I wanted the phones to be returned to me, the walks allowed. Separation of the facilities was also required: women could sleep separately from men,” he says.

A girl was taken away

To meet the demands, the refugees refused to eat breakfast. According to the mayor of the Ignalina district, this tension was caused by a girl: she acted fiercely, not wanting to return to the premises.

“She was after covid returned from Abromiškės. That’s where it all started. The troubled woman was removed from that group and taken somewhere. The border took it out ”, he assured.

Giedrius Mišutis, advisor to the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), informs the news portal tv3.lt that “people whose incidents are possible or visible threats in common living spaces move to other places in anticipation of conflicts or major incidents “.

According to J. Rasik, when the woman was taken from the municipal compound by the border guards, an agreement was reached with the migrants and the unrest was managed.

According to him, it is now freer for migrants to go for a walk in the countryside: the municipality rented fences and the phones were returned. True, not for everyone.

When asked why phones are taken away from migrants, G. Mišutis explains that after arrest, illegal migrants who have phones are first handed over to the SBGS firewalls, therefore, according to internal procedures, migrants cannot use telephones, they are deprived of them.

“They stay on the firewalls until they are tested for COVID-19, and then, if all goes well, they move to another location, in this case, to the municipal location. After that, before they are no longer in the SBGS facilities, they end up in the municipalities, as a rule those phones are returned to them.

But they cannot have telephones in strategic facilities after their arrest to maintain the internal security of the institution, ”he says.

Anxiety accompanies everyone

Although the area, which is home to 50 illegal immigrants, is protected by 5 public security officers and a dog, the inhabitants of the municipality do not sleep very well at night, they are concerned about safety.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Be that as it may, the migrants are now in open areas, on the levels. Security is guaranteed, everything is done to avoid any conflict. But that anxiety is there.

However, people rarely find them because they are not housed here in the same center or in a highly visible place, ”says the mayor.

There was a greater fear of the population, he said, as soon as there was an increase in the flow of migrants from Belarus crossing the border.

Then our farmers found them in the fields. So, it was a greater sense of insecurity among the border population. Now that they are inside, there is less, when there is an area where they can walk and when there are officers to watch, ”Mr. Rasik liked.

In turn, he himself leads to the settlements, talking to the people: “We cooperate as partners with all the structures of the Ministry of the Interior (MIA): the police, the border and the VST. We communicate constantly, we make sure that everything is fine and that the safety of the population is guaranteed. “

“And inside, what may or may not happen is not our concern,” he adds.

Rasik cannot say exactly how much the municipality spends on security, but confirms that “a lot has been trained since July 3.”
