At that time, the mayor of the Lazdijai district, Ausma Miškinienė lrytas.lt stated that although conflict situations can be avoided, the residents of Kapčiamiestis are extremely dissatisfied with the illegal immigrant neighborhood.

Expressed dissatisfaction

The mayor of the Ignalina district, Justas Rasikas, through the portal lrytas.lt said on Tuesday unrest over its natural demands on the district’s facility, which was home to 50 illegal immigrants.

J.Rasikas says that after the end of the migrants’ quarantine, they wanted to walk more freely. The Ignalina district municipality took this into account: it brought more fences, which provides the opportunity to go for a walk.

Dissatisfaction among detained migrants has also been caused by the fact that border workers have not handed over their mobile phones for a long time, and some of their phones have not yet been returned.

“It was basically about a girl who came back from the hospital after COVID-19. She refused to go to the common areas with everyone, spent the night in the stairwell, expressed another dissatisfaction.

All the remaining migrants apparently supported her; we don’t know what he’s talking about in his own language. There was a bit of discomfort, but the border took her to her place and everything calmed down, “said J.Rikas.

In addition, the migrants refused to eat in protest on Tuesday. True, such a protest did not last long.

“Not because of the quality of the food, but apparently to support that girl or because the border does not meet their requirements, they do not return the phones, they all refused to eat breakfast. At one point they had given up lunch, but when they started loading food, as I understand it, they changed their mind, apparently they were hungry, “said the mayor.

Speaking about the threat of major conflicts, J.Rasikas raised the question of whether four officials could guarantee security against 50 people.

“It is no longer our question, we simply ask: the safety of the population comes first. We really don’t want more serious shocks or riots in our area.

We are partners, six municipalities, who contribute to the management of this crisis, but there are also certain requirements: guaranteeing safety, reimbursing costs and communicating with us in a timely manner, ”said J.Rasikas.

Impressive amounts

According to the mayor of Ignalina, these demands have been heard so far: senior state officials promised on Wednesday that costs incurred by municipalities will be reimbursed, in addition, security demands have been heard.

According to J.Rasik, so far the municipalities that have received migrants have not been confirmed orally or in writing that the expenses will be reimbursed.

“If we have guarantees, we will have more peace of mind, because the amounts for maintenance are really impressive,” said J.Rikas. According to him, meals alone cost between 15 and 16 euros a day.

“It just came to our attention then. That’s a lot. The municipalities did not plan for such expenses and did not include them in their budgets. We also do not have the ability to apply for loans to cover these costs. This was due to some problems between the representatives of the municipality and the Government, ”he said.

The mayor points out that the number of migrants staying in Ignalina will double on Wednesday: another 50 people will arrive in the second territory, Kazikiškis.

Residents are in a bad mood

Lazdijai District Mayor Ausma Miškinienė lrytas.lt He said that 50 migrants were currently housed in the former home for the elderly in Kapčiamiestis. According to the mayor, so far more serious conflicts have been avoided.

“After six illegal immigrants fled the populated area, protection has been strengthened. So far, it is enough, there are no big and bright riots, and local officials on duty have short, domestic conversations 24 hours a day,” he said. A. Miškinienė.

However, A. Miškinienė stated that the mood of the local population is not good.

“There is reason to worry about the population, because they still see illegal immigrants, alone or in groups, in the Kapščiamiestis forests. Also, there are still areas where there is no connection,” said the mayor of the Lazdijai district.

According to her, the Communications Regulatory Authority was contacted a week ago about the need to guarantee mobile communication so that people can ask for help if necessary, but no response has yet been received.

“In the city center, they (illegal immigrants – aut.past.) to adapt: people see them, hear them, they are not satisfied, they are not in a good mood, only to the extent that such conflicts are not acute. As a result, there is no reason to say that the population can be calm, there really isn’t, “A. Miškinienė is convinced.

The mayor of the Lazdijai district also hoped that after the meeting with the Government Chancellor on Wednesday, the municipalities that receive the migrants will receive the answers that interest them.

“The questions have to do with the adequate financing of the costs, that is, if the costs that are not planned to be financed to date but are incurred, such as site maintenance, security, bedding, medications, the difference in price of the 5.85 so that the municipalities can buy by survey ”, said the mayor.

“We have no answers, but we have a serious promise to have them tomorrow.” We have no choice but to believe, “he added.
