He graduated from high school at age five, but did not receive a gold medal for refusing to enroll in the Communist Youth. He chose to study Lithuanian language and literature at Vilnius University.

Račius not only had to read the entire encyclopedia (some articles even 2-3 times), but also coordinate the opinions of authors, editors, reviewers, members of the Scientific Editorial Committee, to resolve disputes, to seek compromises.

At the same time, A. Račis directed the preparation of the four-volume encyclopedia “Lithuania” (2008-2015), with Eugenijus Manelis prepared and edited the two-volume encyclopedia guide “History of Lithuania” (2011-2016), had two volumes of “Lithuanian Sports Encyclopedias” (2010-2012)) Vice President of the Scientific Editorial Committee, Member of the State Commission for the Lithuanian Language (2002-2012).

A. Račis was awarded the Medal of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas (2011) for his work in the preparation of the VLE.
