Mayor of Lazdijai district: part of the migrants dissatisfied with food urinate and empty into thermal containers

The mayor spoke about the living conditions of the refugees on the news program tv3.lt, current affairs program “Dienas pjūvis”.

Mayor, are (illegal immigrants – Past ed.) Guaranteed and what are the guaranteed conditions? They have showers, toilets, hygiene products, do we have to buy them?

The conditions are certainly not good, they are satisfactory. For this day there is a bathroom inside and a place to shower. There are sleeping bags, the beds are built. Food is delivered 3 times a day. Adults feed 3 times and children and adolescents feed 4 times.

The area is fenced, so mothers with young children, men, can go out into the yard under the protection of SBGS officials. The conditions are minimal, but from what we hear from SBGS officials and those who feed us, they are not satisfied with these conditions. They want a different diet, they are very demanding with food, they want better conditions.

I understand that for all refugees, the toilet and the shower are one, right? Shampoos, razors, something else, do they have them, do we have to buy them?

There is an old kindergarten in the old fireplace building, it is not one of those bathroom areas, but like the old building, not all of them work well and 70 people really need to use and wait, and maintenance is not easy.

As for hygiene items, some are taken care of by the municipality, and Caritas also helps. Hygiene items have not been provided for a long time, there have been situations where security guards have simply bought the hygiene items women need and other necessary paraphernalia like soap and everything else.

For the most part, this is a municipal concern, as is garbage, food service, site maintenance and preparation, construction of biotorts for officials, etc.

You say they are picky eaters. What wishes do you have?

After a good week, it can be said in principle that there are four products that they eat. These include poultry, rice, fermented cheese, and pasta. Porridge, soups, beef stews, fish fillets are foods that are carried as much as, in principle, transported.

Migrants

Because of how food is handled, how we get what we get, we have actually had extremely difficult cases of urinating and emptying into insulated containers. The situation is really complicated, that’s why the community is upset and we try not to heat up the situation, but to calm it down.

Having all the information that we have now is really a great challenge.

Is the expression of their needs courteous or are they also outraged and angry with us? How do you speak to them? They speak English?

There are different characters in the squad. Whichever continent we live in, there are probably peaceful and not very peaceful people. And there really is everything in this situation.

They speak a little English, some speak Russian, but the expressed needs are actually very easy to understand both by observing body language and by seeing behavior.
