According to the staff of the National Museum, the treasure of the Jagiellonian period of the 14th century was found: silver coins, a men’s silver ring, the highest denomination coin – silver alloys.
Jagiellonian coins featuring a lion were first found, minted before he became king of Poland. There are also clipped coins.
“About ten such treasures are known in Lithuania, but actually only two have survived,” said Povilas Blaževičius, an archaeologist at the National Museum.
The treasure was found uprooted, at a depth of 10-30 cm. The coins could have been in a ceramic or copper alloy container.
“The amount of money is so large that we can probably say that it was a soldier, because it was the soldiers who accumulated the most money at that time. On the one hand, he was predatory for everyone, on the other, he was simply rewarded with large sums for serving the ruler, ”said Eduard Remec, an employee of the Numismatics Department of the National Museum.
