“Myocarditis has been reported in two cases: one with Comirnaty and one with Moderna. Let me remind you that there was also a report last month on myocarditis after the Moderna vaccine. Comparing the data from this month and last month, one or more two is a very insignificant difference.
The only difference is that last month we received a report of myocarditis in a young person, and this month we received reports of myocarditis in the elderly, ”said Rugilė Pilvinien Advis, senior advisor to the ICD’s Department of Pharmacovigilance and Poisoning Information.
IWT says it has no further data on how people with myocarditis currently feel.
According to R. Pilvinienė, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has already confirmed myocarditis and pericarditis as new possible side effects after the Comirnaty and Moderna vaccines. They are already reported in the product information.
In May, a case of myocarditis was recorded after Modern vaccination in a 20-year-old boy. The patient was treated in the hospital for some time. The boy was struck by myocarditis four days after vaccination.
What serious reactions were there?
In June, a total of 37 serious reactions to COVID-19 vaccines were recorded. Serious adverse reactions included peripheral facial paralysis and thrombophlebitis, an inflammation of the superficial veins with local thrombosis of the superficial veins. Also, shingles, drug toxic liver damage.
In a man older than 30, worsening liver disease was reported after vaccination, according to IWT. Evans syndrome is also a rare autoimmune disease with thrombocytopenia and anemia, as well as inflammatory eye diseases. These severe cases occurred 1 to 3 times.
There were also six cases of fainting. A man who fell during his time broke his arm.
One death was also reported after the vaccine in June. “It is noteworthy that the patient, who was reported in June, was vaccinated in March and died in April. This patient is a 91-year-old man who died in a medical facility. According to his relatives, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, ”said R. Pilvinienė.
“It seems to the relatives that the deterioration was due to vaccination. We cannot confirm or deny this case,” said the specialist.
According to IWT, this death is not directly related to vaccination. According to R. Pilvinienė, it would be possible to associate the vaccine with death if conditions that could lead to death were recorded after vaccination, for example, a severe allergic reaction: anaphylaxis.
“In other cases, it is very difficult to find such evidence that vaccination directly caused the death of the patient,” he added.
Most of the side effects are mild.
In a total of 6 months of vaccination, IUDs received 4,301 suspected adverse reactions (ADRs) to COVID-19 vaccines. The Comirnaty vaccine is most often mentioned as a serious side effect, but it is the most widely used drug in Lithuania.
During the first half of the vaccination period (December 27, 2020 to June 30, 2021), IUDs received 4,301 CWD notifications for COVID-19 vaccines. IRR reports represent 0.21 percent of the total number of vaccinations (the number of vaccine doses used from the start of vaccination to June 30 was 2,078,955 doses).
In the sixth month of vaccination, IWT received 736 reports of COD in Lithuania related to the use of COVID-19 vaccines.
There were 395 NSAID reports after Comirnaty, 100 NSAID reports after Moderna, 169 NSAID reports after Vaxzevria, and 69 COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen reports on CPR. The name of the vaccine was not mentioned in 3 NSAID reports.
699 messages are classified as mild to moderate and 37 as severe. As in previous months of vaccination, women reported more cases of IR than men, with 489 and 240 reports, respectively. The age range for CIS reporting individuals is 12 to 95 years old.
As in previous months, the main reports of COCs in people vaccinated with COVID-19 who received IUDs were very similar: pain, swelling and redness at the injection site, arm pain, chills, headache, skin rash and fever.
Most of these reactions were mild to moderate in severity and resolved after a few days.
