I already know the road to Kurdimakščiai, because I did not miss this vacation last year, during the interval between the two quarantines, nor last year, when we were all free to meet, swarm and celebrate. However, those who made it to the outskirts of the remote Lazdijai district spoke without expecting such an impressive show, a welcoming community celebration, and an abundance of guests.
There is no secret here: farmer L. Zajankauskienė knows that everyone wants beautiful photos in such a wonderful summer. Sakura, daffodils, yellow rapeseed fields, red poppies in cereals – all of this has been seen thousands of times on social media every year. And at Kurdimaksčiai, guests are greeted with images that cannot be resisted.
“Last year my friend was here, so I saw the photos too late, when the lavender bloom ended, and I realized: I want to, I will definitely find it. I followed the information when it was celebrated, but I did not expect such a strong impression” said Adele, who came to the festival especially from Kaunas.

Festival organizer L. Zajankauskienė does not hide that in 2016, planting an area of 30 areas with lavender, she never dreamed that this place would become a center of attraction for people from all over Lithuania: “It is good to spend time together. It is Provence, the lavender field is a living display, it is an experience from which it is very easy to realize that we have it all here and now. “
However, on the day of the festival, he had no time to relax. It was necessary not only to cut the lavender flowers together with the helpers to demonstrate their distillation, to assemble a complex device called an alembic, to wait for the magic hydrosol drops to scream, but also to answer thousands of questions: “Why lavender? Why here and not near the big cities? Is it possible to get rid of it? Would it grow on my 12th floor balcony? “

Vilma Busilaitė led the incense production educational workshop, Lazdijai horsemen transported guests in carriages, and a balloon soared into the sky. During the festival, there was a fair of creators, producers, artisans, aromas, tastes and beauty, and game soups “Eigila”.
The focus of this year’s Lavender Festival was on the edge of the field, with an ancient metal bed built between the rings. Everyone wanted to lie on it and take a photo. L. Zajankauskienė said that he borrowed the bed from a neighboring beekeeper, who could only say that she was very old.
According to the owner of the farm, the lavender lasted hard this winter: some of the bushes were frozen, others were covered with snow, so they had to be pruned considerably in spring. L. Zajankauskienė said that the lavender field can exist for about a decade without replanting, therefore the festival, which is popular with guests, will be held more than once.
