Lithuanian soldiers will begin work on the border with Belarus on Saturday, which will help ensure border protection.
A total of 260 soldiers are planned to be assigned to the border guard, who will be deployed to the state border and firebreak activities will be strengthened.
Currently, the border guards are assisted by members of the Lithuanian Rifle Union, as well as officials from the internal affairs system.
Now the border with Belarus is guarded by 190 guards, 360 officers.
In recent months, Lithuania has faced a nearly twenty-fold increase in the flow of illegal immigrants across the Belarusian border. A total of 1,546 illegal immigrants were detained on the border with Belarus this year, mostly from the Middle East and Africa.
As a result, a state of emergency has been declared in the country. Lithuanian officials say it is a hybrid attack organized by the Belarusian regime against Lithuania.
