In turn, the subcommander of the SBGS, Colonel Vidas Mačaitis, affirmed that most of the migrants housed at the Druskininkai border post are from African countries and Iraq.
“There are 50. They are still detained today, it will probably be around 52. As we can see, they are mostly men, young people; children are brought here for the COVID-19 test and then transferred to other facilities.” … They are not open, they do not tell the whole truth, “the official admitted.
Some of the detainees, according to V. Mačaitis, are former Belarusian university students, and Iraqis have arrived in Belarus on tourist visas.
“They mention, and how the Syrians say they are fleeing the regime. Mali: the hostilities, the Iraqis are also fleeing the hostilities. They are legends and more or less the same language,” said the colonel.
Expect the concert to set up in a couple of months
According to V. Mačaitis, the installation of barbed wire fences on the border began on Friday; the concert barrier should cover about 510 kilometers from the border with Belarus.
“As there are bodies of water, regional and national parks, it is not possible to build everywhere, exceptions will be made and it will be built in the near future. I think if it really happens on time, maybe a couple of months will be enough. It will be equipped with the logistical capabilities of the army, “said the SBGS deputy commander.
Several illegal immigrants, he said, have expressed their voluntary desire to return to their home country and their applications are being processed.
