Bloodstained ATM buttons are far from tempting to touch or withdraw money. However, in an emergency, the image the Vilnius woman saw could not be angry.
“When you try to get money and you realize that it was an extreme operation for someone. This Swedbank external ATM is located next to the large Hyper Rimi in North Town. I wonder who the owner is to take care of it. Clean, disinfect and make sure that the customer, at the very least, is not upset about performing the necessary procedures, ”wrote a Vilnius resident (the name is known to the editorial board).
ATM sprayed with blood
Posting this post on a social network spilled comments with suspicions that it could become evidence of a criminal incident.
Delfi contacted a police communications representative, who explained that no calls had been made near the mall in recent days.
A Vilnius woman interviewed by Delfi explained why she did not rush to seek police contacts when she saw such a picture.
“You come to the ATM, you want to withdraw money and you find it like this. I did not immediately summarize who should be notified. There was no thought of the police, as it was obvious that it was stale, sintered and dried blood. So I immediately thought about hygiene. And in front of me, the woman had approached the ATM, but did not touch it. So I approached myself and understood why.
There was no idea that any crime had been committed here. Because the air temperature has been so high in the last few days, it was obvious to me that the blood was not fresh and had even been roasted from the heat. He didn’t even know who had to report him and who was managing those cases: a bank or a supermarket. Well, the commenters who started looking for a criminal here probably didn’t realize it wasn’t fresh blood, “the woman said.
One may get the impression that the blood is the result of a sad weekend for someone, but the woman explained that the ATM, which she knew, had been stained before.
“I found it myself on Friday night, but people wrote in the comments that they also saw it during the day. Therefore, blood may also remain for a whole week. Perhaps the man got sick from the heat and spilled through his nose. Or maybe he just broke his arm. I don’t know what could have happened here, maybe what kind of criminal. But first I drew attention to the fact that cleanliness should be taken care of in such places. And in this case, it seems that those things are neglected. This is not the first time: we found flooded and dirty ATMs. So I wonder who is responsible for this sterility ”, said the interlocutor.
On Saturday, Delfi contacted Gabriele Sereniene, Rimi Lietuva’s media relations representative, who explained that banks are often responsible for cleaning ATMs.
“ATMs belong to the banks that manage them and they are solely responsible for their maintenance. This is a specific piece of equipment, so we only care about the ATM environment. But we are very grateful for your attention and immediately report this unpleasant situation, which has been resolved. At the moment, special attention should be paid to hygiene. We want our customers to have only the best experience in our store. Even if we don’t have ATMs, we care about the whole environment, ”said a Rimi media representative.
On the same day, Delfi also sent a comment to Swedbank representatives, who stated that they had been informed that the ATM was being operated on both Friday and Saturday.
“We understand the importance of hygiene, especially at this time. As far as I know, the ATMs at the supermarket you mentioned were cleaned yesterday and the ATM operators cleaned them today.
In general, bank ATMs and branch surfaces are cleaned regularly to ensure all hygiene requirements, ”Gytis Vercinskas, Swedbank’s director of retail banking communications, responded by email.
