The play “Hip Hop Connecting People” combines the early history of the development of Lithuanian hip hop with the fashion of street culture that came from the United States through music channels at that time.
“In the 90’s ONYXs were one of the most popular rap groups in Lithuania. When he was a kid, he would spin his cassettes all the time. The whole district asked them. What was the district here ?, everyone asked them. Hits like SLAM, Shut ‘Em Down or Bacdafucuo are recorded in the global history of gangsta rap.
When we decided to do a joint piece, it was not difficult to choose a theme: the title “Hip hop connecting people” immediately came to mind. After all, we had just lost our identity after regaining our independence, the young people on the streets did not know what to align themselves with, how to live, and lo and behold, with the advent of western rap culture, many discovered themselves . . The uncertain future, the limited possibilities, the wild 90s when it comes to fighting for ourselves, and here on musical television screens they have appeared like us: thirsty for freedom and fighting for their future. Someone seemed to understand us. That’s how that virtual bridge connected us, ”Ironvytas said.
A large number of people contributed to the creation of the song and the video clip: from members of famous groups in the past, actors to representatives of today’s martial arts elite.
“Countless people worked on this project, for whom I am very grateful, because there was a lot of work. When we plunged into this adventure with music producer Donatas Tamašauskas-Dzouns and concert director Julian Verdee, we knew that everything had to be done very professionally, because this video clip will not only be seen by the Lithuanian market. The ONYX bands didn’t want to disappoint either.
We entrusted the work of the operator to Maxim Vilchinsky, who together with Giesha, a member of the famous XXL group in the past, sat on the assembly work for several days, so that the result was 100%. Actors Marius Repšys, Žilvinas Tratas, boxer Evaldas Petrauskas, MMA fighters Tomas Pakutinskas, Laurynas Urbonavičius and a group of my friends, who patiently spent more than an hour at the filming site, were filmed in the video clip, ”he said. the rapper.
