– According to the government’s decision, as of July, once the quarantine period is over, part of the restrictions remain, one of them is the use of masks where contact services are provided. What does this mean?

– We will receive explanations in the near future, people will be informed very precisely. However, according to preliminary information, masks will be needed when there may be a significant number of people in the provision of services. They can be both shops and public transport.

– This summer, compared to the previous one, is peculiar Already seen. Again in the summer we will have the opportunity to live more freely. But we look forward to the fall. In what epidemiological situation could stricter restrictions return to our lives?

– The restrictions are decided independently by each party. In the event of outbreaks that may spread, it is necessary to act quickly and decisively. In this case, it is necessary to strengthen management measures. And it doesn’t have to be quarantined. It is important that the quarantine level is not reached by detecting the infection at the point of origin.

– The new delta variety is very worrying. How fast can it spread in Lithuania?

– Varieties of the virus, mutations: they are an expression of the virus to survive and not be destroyed. It is not necessary to talk about the delta variety in Lithuania in the future.

There are already 12 cases in the country, ten of them in Vilnius. Fortunately, the majority (11 cases) involve foreigners or other contacts. And only one case was registered within the country when a person had not gone anywhere. This shows, small but still, the spread of a new strain of delta in our society. I would not be surprised if there were more such cases than are reported in official statistics. We are not completely isolated, the borders of the country are open.

– Do infected people honestly communicate with epidemiologists to find out the path of the delta strain?

– So far, I have no data that people avoid communicating with professionals in one way or another. All twelve individuals of the infected delta strain reported in good faith.

– The new variety is spreading even faster than the British one. What does it depend on? Can we have another variety?

– Hopefully the virus is no more surprising, but no one can protect themselves from it. We are trying to control this infection, but the virus is struggling and trying to survive. Also, variety is an expression of that.

– Are all vaccines vaccinated in Lithuania effective against the delta strain of cronavirus?

– There is a lack of scientific data to answer this question, but we are relying on data from UK researchers stating and naming the efficacy of Vaxzevria and Pfizer vaccines.

– Summer is a time of travel. Do you recommend traveling abroad today?

– I personally stay in Lithuania, the situation is not suitable for traveling. If possible, I suggest everyone to stay in Lithuania. Our country is very safe compared to what happens in our favorite resorts.

If there are no travel options to avoid, I recommend taking a look at the situation in that country before leaving. It’s also worth buying tickets that can be canceled at the last minute.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control provides data not only on countries or holiday destinations, but also on epidemiological information, including by country. This is important because information on the coronavirus situation a week before / after a week may no longer be fully relevant.

When traveling, stay sane, comply with safety requirements, and minimize potential risks. I recommend canceling trips for those who have not been vaccinated or are unable to do so due to a medical condition. Also, if there are children under the age of twelve among the travelers. They are at higher risk because they cannot get vaccinated at a young age.
