Transportation services platform Bolt has recently posted near record weeks, so orders can be said to have returned to pre-pandemic level.
“It just came to our notice then. There is still a little bit left until the record weeks, let’s say what it was in December 2019, when it is the most profitable time,” says Andrius Pacevičius, Bolt’s director in Lithuania.
Another trucking company posted 50 percent in May. order of growth. Eglė Norkaitienė, marketing director at eTaksi, points out that not all drivers have made it back to work, so the lack of it is felt.
“In May, compared to previous periods, we saw an increase of about 50 percent. It was really quite sudden, and it is natural that drivers have not returned to work yet, and we are also expecting new drivers,” he says.
Residents who have been using transportation services for some time have been outraged by the rising prices. If before a trip of three kilometers cost more than three euros, now you have to double it.
The carriers themselves say that prices are dynamic, so they depend on real-time demand and the number of drivers.
And as prices go up, so do drivers’ wages.
“The salary of drivers has increased 2 and 3, and perhaps 4 times for some. Just because of the large number of orders, drivers never have to stand up, orders just drop,” says E. Norkaitienė.
“Income has been cut in half during the quarantine period. You can say that it grows a little every week,” adds the head of Bolt.
Representatives of passenger transport companies advise people to plan their trips in advance and be willing to pay more during congestion.
“In the past, you know, the biggest demand was in the evenings, now there is a similar demand almost all day. It’s really, I mean, a very sudden spike, and all hours are peak, “says the eTaksi marketing manager.
Passenger companies warn that demand for these services is likely to increase in the fall due to colder weather, so prices may fluctuate as well.
