The 57th international poetry event, usually held in May, postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine restrictions, will begin Sunday night in three major cities in the country: Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
In Vilnius, the festival’s inaugural event will take place at the Vilnius University Botanical Garden in Vingis Park in Kaunas, on the balcony of the Kaunas National Drama Theater and in Laisvės Alley.
The poetry readings in the port city will begin with an event at the Writers’ Union Klaipeda branch, as well as a virtual poetry bridge with the United States, Great Britain and Sweden will be organized in the port of Dane near the swing bridge.
The festival will take place from June 27 to July 11, inviting more than a hundred events in Lithuania and abroad. The closing night of the Spring of Poetry will take place on July 11 at the Vilnius City Hall.
The award to the winner of this year’s festival, Dovilė Zelčiūtė, will take place in the garden of the Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature in Kaunas on July 9. The most important poetry award for poetry is dedicated to the poetry book “Dances on Vilnius Street”.
