Aleksandras Siakki, the head of the Klaipėda beach rescuers, told the tv3.lt news portal more about the painful events on Saturday night in Smiltyne:
“It was dangerous to swim on all the beaches in Klaipeda, so red flags were raised. People were warned of the danger through loudspeakers and rescuers on patrol.
That family was resting outside on the beach. But our rescuers had also gone there. Specifically, that family was warned that bathing was prohibited. But the guy replied that there is no need to survive and that nothing will happen to them.
But it happened. The whole family fell into a well formed at the bottom of the sea. One of them managed to push the young woman out of the well, reached the bottom and ran to the beach to inform the rescuers that her mother and brother were drowning ”.
The rescuers reported this to the central post and rushed to the scene themselves. No bodies were seen in the water.
“First we found the body of the guy. The resuscitation was started, but he was not resuscitated. Then a helicopter arrived and continued the search for the woman. The body was detected from a helicopter.
