T. Sedekerski helped the national team in control games against Russia and the Dominican Republic, and being on the shortlist is a special feeling for this basketball player from Nida.
Until a couple of years ago, T. Sedekerskis, as he puts it, couldn’t think about the men’s team for a moment, because his career was not without setbacks.
“Obviously, my path was not easy, there were years when I could not think about the team, it was difficult. But what my season has shown, work often pays off. Everything can change. You know a confident coach. in you, he gains playing time, he gains experience, he becomes more visible. Now, here in the national team, my task is to show that I can help the team, “said T. Sedekerskis while speaking to tv3.lt.
Last season will be memorable for T. Sedekersky for a long time. After coming to coach Duško Ivanovičius, Nidiškis played the best season of his career in Vitorija. As he himself says, it was this season that fundamentally changed his own career.
“The atmosphere in the national team is always fabulous. Everyone, both young and old and stars of the team, is very friendly. Perhaps I did not even expect to be received so kindly here. On the other hand, there are no problems, after such a season in the selection, the feeling is special. It seems that in one season everything turned upside down, “said T. Sedekerskis.
If T. Sedekersky reaches the bottom twelve and the national team enters the Tokyo Olympics, this 22-year-old basketball player will have a dream come true.
“Dream come true. From the day I started attending basketball, it was my number one goal. Going into the Olympics would mean an infinite amount. Maybe not much more occurred to him,” said T. Sedekerskis.
More about the season that changed T. Sedekerskis’s career, the mood in the national team and the goals for himself: interview:
So first of all, do you still consider yourself that young, less experienced basketball player on this team?
I feel good, I’ve had a good season, my self-confidence is enough, but I have to understand that I am one of the youngest players in the national team. There are many older and much more experienced people here. This is a very important summer for me. Probably just as important first, because this is my first time on the national team. I still don’t see my role, I just realize that it’s good to be here.
And what state of mind did you find within the team when you arrived here?
The atmosphere in the national team is always fabulous. Everyone, both young and old and stars of the team, is very friendly. Perhaps he did not even expect to be so kindly received here. On the other hand, there are no problems, after such a season in the national team, the feeling is special. It seems that in one season everything was turned upside down.
But was he towards that feeling on purpose?
Obviously, my path was not easy, there were years when I could not think about the national team, it was difficult. But what my season has shown, work often pays off. Everything can change. You meet a coach who trusts you, gains playing time, gains experience, becomes more visible. Now here in the national team, my job is to show that I can help the team.
Did you think that one day you would make the national team?
A person has to have a goal, have something to fight for. In Lithuania, a country like basketball, I have dreamed of a national team since I was a child. From what I can remember, I watched the game on television; I thought I saw my goddesses in it. It was certainly a dream. Of course, you don’t think about it much, you just go, work, try and hope for the best every day. You can’t think much, you have to work hard.
And to what extent has your current coach, Duško Ivanovičius, changed your motivation and way of thinking about basketball?
I don’t know if it was the coach who made me a better player. The coach gave me a clear role in the team, he gave me minutes on the field, which is the most important thing. After all, nobody watches the workouts, goes behind the scenes, doesn’t feel how much you have the desire and ambition. If you don’t play, you are not interested in anyone. When you start playing, you want to grow, improve, improve the game even more. I will not stop.
What is the difference between the time spent at the club and the national team? What is the connection between people?
It’s very different. Here we are all Lithuanians, most of us know each other, we have played with some of the youth teams. Everyone is familiar: coaches, familiar faces, sports close to family, close to home. The atmosphere in club basketball is different. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s completely different. We play here for Lithuania, we want to make a celebration for Lithuanians, to make our fans happy. In short, we all have the same purpose. The clubs are diverse, some have their own goals, such as playing a good season individually and moving to a higher level, others work for the common good. This is not the case with the national team. But I have not had to play in a team with a bad atmosphere. No team has such a close connection as in Lithuania.
What would it mean for you to participate in the Olympic Games together with Lithuania?
A dream come true. From the day I started attending basketball, it was my number one goal. Entering the Olympics would mean an infinite amount. Perhaps not much else occurred to him.
