“We are already in talks with the European Union Agency for Refugees and Support, which is ready to help us, now we are putting a clear need for what we need. First of all, there are translators and other expert help, because other countries have a lot of that experience and they plan to share it with us, ”said the Minister.
The minister said that it was necessary to mobilize the maximum of forces.
“It is understandable that migrants are dissatisfied with the restricted movement, which caused yesterday’s riots. We all know very well that their ultimate goal is not Lithuania. However, Lithuania has a responsible view of this situation and, as a member of the Union European Union, does not intend to allow the emergence of illegal immigration through our country. We are now actively cooperating with international institutions and I personally keep in touch with the interior ministers of other countries so that we can all find together the best solution ”, says Interior Minister A. It is also intended to take advantage of international experience in the management of migrant camps. It is recognized that the growing migratory flows will not escape the tensions.
“We observe the grouping of subcultures, the formation of certain groups and a kind of hierarchy among migrants. Our officers are on constant alert and ensure control of the situation despite difficult conditions. We see that the illegal immigrants were expecting an easy trip to their destination, but we interrupted their plans during the procedures, ”says the Commander of the State Border Guard Service, Gen. A total of 507 illegal immigrants from Belarus have already tried to enter Lithuania this year. That number is more than six times higher than it was in 2020. Last year, 81 of those foreigners were detained.
2019 46 illegal immigrants were caught by border guards in 2018; – 104. Among those arrested on the border with Belarus this year there are mostly Iraqi citizens or foreigners who came forward – 328. Also detained 46 Iran, 42 Syria, 39 Belarus, 17 Russia, 11 Turkey, 10 Sri Lanka, 6 Tajikistan , 3 Afghanistan, 2 Yemeni and Egyptian citizens and 1 Somali or people who come forward.
With the recent increase in the flow of illegal immigrants by more than sixfold, SBGS has tightened border security with Belarus. In addition, the forces of the Public Security Service, the Lithuanian Police, the Riflemen’s Union and other institutions came to the aid of the border guards.
