As Darius Didžgalvis, initiator of darbkblaivus.lt, director of the company Inovatyvių procesų sprendimai, said at the press conference, the analysis was carried out on the basis of depersonalized information collected over three and a half years from 12 million. Sobriety tests carried out in various companies in the country.
According to him, according to the data collected by the company, the total number of drunk employees registered in companies per day is less than a percentage of all employees who work.
“It seems that the figure is 0.75 percent. Per day it is not very big, but if we translate it on the total number of Lithuanian employees, impressive figures come out, it means that around 10 thousand people come per day. Workers intoxicated in Lithuania, ”he said.
The problem is also relevant for women
According to D. Didžgalvis, the analysis also refuted prevailing stereotypes that the problem of drunkenness at work affects mainly the construction sector and only men.
“The problem for men is much bigger here, but unfortunately women are only a third less likely to be drunk at work than men, so it cannot be said that it exists only among men. If men 0.25 percent. drunks, women – 0.16 percent come every day These statistics are taken from 600 thousand. evidence, “said D. Didžgalvis at the press conference.
According to the authors of the analysis, the introduction of sobriety inspections in companies tends to register around three times more drunk workers than later, when inspections become common, the number of drunk workers more than doubled after two months, plus four times in three years.
Representatives of the initiative point out that during the quarantine a significant part stopped testing employees or did not begin to do it constantly, so the problems have returned, and during the summer the average number of intoxicated employees increases to 50 per hundred.
Determined by education, place of residence
D. Didžgalvis points out that the indicators of intoxication are related to education, social status and, in part, also to the place of residence of people, that is, the population of rural areas is intoxicated more frequently.
According to him, around 40-49-year-old men have the most poisoning problems at work – they are about 50 percent more likely than younger and older groups. more often they come to work intoxicated.
“Another interesting finding was that the construction sector is completely trapped in production according to these indicators (…). Sometimes it is joked that we do not understand why people bring that glass container to the workplace to throw it away. But it is natural that they do not bring it empty, “said D. Didžgalvis.
The lowest number of intoxicated people is detected in the Transport sector, which is related both to the greater responsibility of employees and to the greater experience of companies in controlling the sobriety of employees.
The most intoxicated, on Mondays
Daumantas Stumbrys, a professor at the Vytautas Magnus University Center for Migration Research and the Department of Sociology, who investigated the data, stated that the way intoxication at work is related to months, days of the week, during the day and specific vacation periods.
“Of course, those days are Mondays, after the weekend – almost twice as many intoxicants arrive, as well as the holidays and after the holidays – after the New Year, after the St. John’s Day that you now expect, after July 6 and after Herbal, there are the highest number of intoxicated people who come to work, indicators, they really do not double, ”said D. Stumbrys.
According to him, these data are also supported by previous mortality studies, which show that the highest number of deaths on Sunday and Monday are due to alcohol-related causes.
The researcher emphasized that according to international research data, the Lithuanian population indicated that they consumed alcohol almost infrequently, but the amount of alcohol consumed at one time was the highest.
“Usually we work a week, and on the weekend we don’t drink one, but maybe a few days, we come until Sunday, Monday and not everyone can be sober. All the research leads to one conclusion: a harmful culture of drinking, “he said.
Some employers don’t want to see problems either.
Renaldas Čiužas, director of the Department of Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol Control, pointed out that although inspection data shows a lower prevalence of intoxication at work in transport companies, last year the police recorded an increase of a quarter in the number of accidents with intoxicated drivers.
He noted that the number of diseases directly related to alcohol, psychoses, has dropped by about 10 percent in recent years to 100,000. about 850 people per capita.
R. Čiužas says that the department conducted its research in the spring, in which more than 550 companies participated.
“We see that in practice 55 percent. 25% of the surveyed workplaces do not see the need or talk about any preventive activity. Employers solve the problem in a simple way: if you have a problem, please resign, that’s firing. 17 percent of employers say it may not be entirely ethical to talk about prevention, because people may not understand it, “said R. Čiužas.
